The following examples show that gaining work experience doesn’t always have to be a traditional job – there are plenty of ways to get involved, explore your passions, and build your skill set!
Interested in Law? Visit the public gallery in your local court to observe real cases and get a feel for how lawyers and judges operate in the legal system.
Thinking About Medicine? Volunteer at a care home, hospice, or hospital to gain experience interacting with patients, learning about care settings, and understanding healthcare environments.

In-Person Work Experience Opportunities
BAE Systems Work Experience At BAE Systems, we provide some of the world's most advanced, technology-led defence, aerospace and security solutions. Work experience at the Met Office The Met Office work experience programme consists of two distinct phases. The first is an online work experience. This stand-alone programme is available to all UK-based students aged between 13 and 18, and all who register are guaranteed a place. Following completion of the online programme, you can apply for a second phase of work experience - a two to three day in-person placement, for which limited places are available. |

BBC 'Get In' Taster Days Our ‘Get In’ Taster Days are a great way to find out more about life at the BBC and the opportunities we have on offer. They’ll give you first-hand experience of your local BBC base and the kind of work you might be doing there. We’d love to hear from you if a job in the media industry is something you think you might like, but just don’t know how or where to start looking! Sessions are for students aged 16 - 18. |
Engineering Excellence Lockheed Martin UK, offer an annual week of Work Experience that usually takes place in July. This provides UK secondary school pupils aged 15-17 with a valuable insight into the world of work. our applications are open from January – March each year |
Feldon Dunsmore Solicitors We are running our popular in-person work experience scheme again this year. Any Lower Sixth student interested in commercial property law should apply. We are offering 3-day hands-on placements in Spring (March-May) and Summer (July-September) 2025. Applications are now open , for our Spring scheme, close on 31st January 2025. EY - Career Starters Designed for school students in Year 11 or 12, you’ll discover more about an EY apprenticeship and the wealth of exciting career possibilities available to you. Across one day or two days, you'll learn more about the work our apprentices do to make an impact on our people, clients, and communities. You’ll take part in on-the-job case studies, business skills sessions, and networking EY apprentices and leaders. There are two programme options available: Financial Futures and Female Tech Futures |
The Science and Technology Facilities Council The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of Europe’s largest research organisations, supporting scientists and engineers and running experiments around the UK and worldwide. Daresbury Laboratory (DL), Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) and UK Astronomy Technology Centre (UK ATC) offer work experience placements to Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 students each year, many from local schools and around the country. |
Electronic Warfare centre of excellence The work experience programme is not only aimed to challenge and inspire you, but it also looks great on your CV, as well as an opportunity to make an impression within the company. Successful applicants will undertake a series of inter-linked projects that challenge students to design, build and test an electronic product to meet a set of customer requirements. |
UK Work Experience Programme Diamond Light Source's annual schools Work Experience programme offers a number of placements to school/college students in Years 10-13 (ages 14-18). Diamond's work experience programme gives students the chance to come and work at one of the UK’s leading science facilities for a week. Initially students will receive a day's introduction to Diamond and a look around the facility to see first hand how it operates. The main element of the week will be a three day project in a specific area, which students will complete and then present. |
