LUNGevity's Part in the Quest to Conquer Cancer CachexiaEach year, millions of people with cancer experience cachexia, or wasting, characterized by significant unintended weight loss. This complex syndrome lessens their quality of life and makes it harder for them to endure cancer treatments. ![]()
Since 2022, LUNGevity has been a key player in a $25 million international network, Team CANCAN, dedicated to understanding and treating cachexia. Team CANCAN (Cancer Cachexia Action Network), which includes experts from 14 institutions in the US and UK, is running two major clinical studies, UNCOVER and LOTUS-CC, focusing on lung, colorectal, and pancreatic cancer to identify early signs of cachexia and improve outcomes. Team CANCAN is funded by Cancer Grand Challenges, a global research initiative to help overcome the toughest challenges in cancer. LUNGevity participated in the Cancer Grand Challenges Summit in Boston, held from March 4-7, 2025. This prestigious event gathers the brightest minds in cancer research from around the world, all united in their mission to solve some of the biggest issues in the field—including cachexia. LUNGevity is proud to be part of this crucial work, supporting individuals with lung cancer at risk for cachexia. Learn more about Team CANCAN’s work and patient resources here.
