Safer Medicines Campaign

September 2021

Dear Friends,

Still making our voice heard

We are very happy to still be here, and still speaking out, thanks to your wonderful support.

Our Director, Dr Jan Turner, gave the opening presentation at a Westminster Health Forum meeting in March, about “The future of medicines regulation in the UK”. Jan's presentation can be viewed here.

Jan also presented a webinar at the Evidence-Based Toxicology Collaboration's Scientific Symposium in June on "Overcoming data availability obstacles in the way of evidence-based toxicology". Jan's slides are available here.

Our Research Consultant, Dr Pandora Pound spoke last week at the 11th World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences, on "Breaking the lock-in to animal research within academia". Her slides are available here.

Our Scientific Consultant, Rebecca Ram, also spoke at the 11th World Congress, on "Funding and Regulation - Does One Pose a Greater Threat to Advancement?" You can view her slides here.

Many of these themes are expanded on in our new blog series, which we hope you will find useful and interesting.

In August, we were very pleased to join with Animal Free Research UK, as part of a group of more than 70 scientists and organisations calling on the Government to modernise medical research by making it more human relevant. A summary of our open letter was published in the Guardian and you can read the full letter here.

Please help us to continue this work

Leaflet

Please order copies of our leaflet for your friends and family, and if you can afford to, please help us with a donation, which will be hugely appreciated, no matter how small. We are still in great need of funds if we are to continue our work to transform medical research from a largely animal-based to a human-based science.

Donate Now

If you have already donated, thank you so much - our work is simply not possible without your support.

With our grateful thanks and best wishes from all of us at Safer Medicines,

Kathy Archibald, Supporter engagement manager

PS Pass on something wonderful

Main Content Inline Small

Now more than ever Safer Medicines Trust is relying on gifts in Wills from supporters like you to help our work live on. After taking care of your family and friends, even a small gift can make a huge impact.

Remember A Charity Week (6-12th September), is the perfect opportunity to take a moment to consider passing on something wonderful by leaving a gift in your Will.

If you’d like to find out more about leaving a gift in your Will, please visit our legacy page.

We are so grateful to all of the wonderful people who have already left legacies to Safer Medicines Trust - it is no exaggeration to say that we simply would not exist without them. We remember them constantly and strive to fulfil their wishes, which drive all of our work.

Safer Medicines Trust is a patient safety charity. Our mission is to change the way medicines are tested, to a system based on human biology: the only way to ensure safety for patients.

Safer Medicines Campaign exists to challenge the regulations that still require animal-based safety tests when superior methods exist.

Help us put patient safety first!
