Sunday Edition
Happy Easter Sunday, dear members! We at the SDC hope you’ve been enjoying your long weekend so far, whether it’s with family and friends or with a few books and some peace and quiet. I (Jarred) told you earlier that I didn’t have anything planned for today and will be resting and relaxing, but I had a lovely surprise on Friday: my sister and niece came over and said they’d love to spend the weekend with me! While I love peacefulness and would go for it nine times out of ten, I’d drop everything for them (but maybe not my phone? Haha!). My sister would always joke about how her little one has me wrapped around her tiny finger. Well, dear members, I regret nothing! Pretty soon, my niece will be off doing grown-up things, and so, I’m savouring every chance I get to spend time with her.
Speaking of appreciating the simple joys of life, here’s this week’s Sunday quote, sent in by dear member Dennis R.:
‘Every day is a good day if you are here to see it.’
It’s quite refreshing to recognise the often underrated joy of waking up daily and having another 24 hours to take in all that the world has to offer — and that’s talking about the bad too, admittedly, but most especially the good. Things like seeing a toddler happy when you hand her a lolly, an unexpected smile from a kind stranger, or even just the smell of a nice, hot cup of coffee to start the day makes life all the more pleasurable. So, from your SDC family to you: we’re glad you’re here with us!
I’d also like to bring your attention to our new Members Helping Members forum, where everyone can help each other even in the smallest of ways. We’ve been so elated and touched by the activity we’ve been seeing so far, including some members wanting to chat face-to-face or even cook for others out of the kindness of their hearts. We’re truly seeing the SDC spirit in action!
Now, let’s look at what happened across Australia and around the world this week:
-
YOUR SAY SUNDAY: Another light and delightful one for you this weekend, folks! Ah, the timeless Aussie Easter delight… What was your favourite Royal Easter Show Bag? We want to hear from YOU.
-
This week, Coles, Woolworths, ALDI, and IGA gave us some amazing deals, including Cadbury Multipacks for $4.75 each, an Oral-B Vitality Electric Toothbrush for $22.50, and some seafood. You
can still get these deals today!
-
ATTENTION, MEMBERS! Centrelink announced major upcoming payment and reporting date changes during Easter.
Here’s everything you need to know.
-
RECALL ALERT: There’s been a few this week, members. Woolworths recalled hot cross buns due to fears of contamination, they also recalled a supermarket staple over potentially fatal allergic reactions. What's more, we saw another dangerous recall affecting over 7,000 cars nationwide. So, don’t miss these, members!
-
One of the brains behind ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ and John Farnham’s smash hit ‘You’re the Voice’ passed away at the age of 76. Revisit the life and legacy of this icon here.
-
A ‘70s actress who played a beloved character on M*A*S*H passed away aged 84: ‘We will always have the beauty of her memory.’
-
Kmart was criticised for making a change some have called ‘the DUMBEST’. Are shoppers overreacting, or is this new scheme really just ridiculous?
-
An increasingly common grocery find irked one ALDI customer who noticed it in a pack of frozen fish, and it might be something you’ve experienced too!
-
‘It’s just before six o’clock at night… And as usual…’ A shopper at Coles let the retail giant know he wasn’t pleased with something YOU might be
all too familiar with. What could have left this shopper outraged?
-
A recent report revealed that a popular grocery buy beat even Macca’s chips when it comes to saltiness — and it’s something you probably have in
your pantry!
-
Bunnings said it was slowly phasing out a controversial line of products notorious for causing ‘horrific pain and suffering’. Are you on board with this change?
-
A $19 Kmart buy made waves this week after many shoppers hailed it ‘the solution’ for their back pains and seating woes: ‘Well, I’m sold!’
-
Everyone knows lobsters are delicious and don’t come cheap. That’s why one shopper was the talk of the town when she scored the seafood delights for just $6 at Coles. Just how did she get such a deal?
-
Seafood is a must-have when it comes to Easter, and boy, do we have a recipe guaranteed to hit the right spot amid the chill of autumn. Will you give this a try?
-
And lastly… Do you know why men ‘shouldn’t write advice columns’? This funny joke from member @Skipton explains the reason!

Easter is a time many spend with loved ones, and this forum post by member @LaniK captures the yearning for family while growing up as a child in the ‘50s. ‘I do not have a bad memory of my childhood… I would not change a thing,’ they said, remembering a time when there was much respect for parents and children were safe and free to play in the streets. Member @LaniK also shared their most treasured memory from childhood, and it’s one I think most, if not all, of you would relate to. I’d say it here, but that would take away from their
lovely memory shared on the forum. Do you miss life as a carefree child, and would you change anything about it, given the chance? Tell us your thoughts here. If you have other images or musings about the past, please feel free to post on our Yesterday’s Australia forum and remember the good ol’ days.
