Maritimo to race the most luxurious maxi yacht AND the oldest yacht in the 2024 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

Maritimo, the Australian-owned and made luxury motor yacht brand, is behind two entries in this year’s Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race – a superb Oyster 100, called Maritimo 100, and the painstakingly restored, 120-year-old timber yacht, Maritimo Katwinchar.

A Mermaid’s tale

The next Derwent Class (D-Class) yacht to join the fleet is undergoing a meticulous rebuild in the hands of talented craftspeople at Tasmanian Shipwrights & Co, ahead of her official debut at the 2025 Australian Wooden Boat Festival in February. Named “Mermaid”, she is D11 and was rescued in Sydney by the owner of “Merlin” who, with his dad, is a passionate proponent of D-Class racing.

Australia Day Ferrython

An annual crowd favourite, Ferrython sees thousands of spectators line the shores of Sydney Harbour to cheer on four of the city’s iconic Emerald Class ferries as they compete for honours in a race across the waves. For 2025, the ferries will complete two laps from Fort Denison to the finish line beside the Sydney Harbour Bridge, allowing the vessels to reach speeds unparalleled since the inception of Ferrython on Australia Day in 1977.

The team at Riviera, Australian premium luxury motor yacht builder, has celebrated a year of outstanding achievements with a special luncheon at the company’s manufacturing facility on Queensland’s Gold Coast. This event allowed Riviera Australia owner Rodney Longhurst to reflect on the year 2024, to welcome members who joined the team over the year and to thank the assembled group of more than 950 people.

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers ready for holiday season after busy November

Marine Rescue NSW volunteers across the state were busy during November, with the service expecting demand to increase over the holiday season. Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Alex Barrell said volunteer crews completed 375 search and rescue missions last month, including 98 emergency responses, with 902 people safely returned to shore.
