What's happening on your waterfront this month Kia ora, Your waterfront is going to be buzzing with activity this month. Queens Wharf is the Auckland hub for one of the largest sporting events in the world in the FIFA Womens World Cup, Matariki on the Waterfront returns, and Whānau Mārama New Zealand International Film Festival begins. We also have new activations, a new place to eat, and some upgrades going in. Ngā mihi, The Your Waterfront Team Auckland Night Markets are on at North WharfThe Auckland Night Markets has taken over the lease of the ex-Pescado tenancy at the western end of North Wharf. Expanding on their successful nightly markets across Auckland, they're currently opening 4pm-11pm on Sundays, but keep an eye on their website for up to date details!
Wharau kōrero Storytelling Container Now OpenWharau kōrero is our new Storytelling Container on the bases on Hamer St. It is a place for you to kick back and immerse yourself in a collection of stories about the worlds in, around, and between us. To listen, simply connect your audio device to the container’s sound system, browse the audio library using the QR codes opposite, and press play. The audio library in this container is flexible and will be changing periodically, so be sure to check back regularly for updates
CCTV upgradeEke Panuku have been hard at work upgrading the CCTV network across Wynyard Quarter, the Viaduct and Westhaven. In Wynyard Quarter there at 30 new cameras, including license plate recognition cameras. VEC EventsThe Viaduct Event Centre is busy this month with some major bookings. From the 12-16 July expect to see increased security measures around the building and wharves due an international event being held there.
Beaumont Street Road ResurfacingAuckland Transport is improving our roads in Wynyard Quarter by resurfacing Beaumont St, with night works 09 – 12 July 2023. There will be no access to Beaumont St between Gaunt St and Jellicoe St during the closures. The closure on Jellicoe Street will be continuously manned to allow access for residents or workers who can confirm they require access to the closed area that is not being sealed (Hamer St, Jellicoe St ext. west). For more information please contact Auckland Transport on 09 355 3553 FIFA Fan Festival From Thursday July 20 at The Cloud The FIFA Women's World Cup might be the biggest sporting event ever held here in Aotearoa. Over one billion people around the world are expected to tune in to the tournament. The Cloud on Queens Wharf is host to the FIFA Fan Festival, your home for all the excitement, snacks and entertainment, with a big screen broadcasting all the games. Come down and watch with what is sure to be a very amped crowd. The Fan Zone will be open on match days from the opening game between New Zealand & Norway on July 20. Keep your eye out too for more activations from the FIFA team on the waterfront during the tournament.
Matariki on the Waterfront 31 May - 11 June, Silo Park Matariki on the Waterfront returns to Silo Park, promising a range of experiences to invigorate the soul and warm the senses during the cold of winter. See Silo Park come alive with a range of workshops and games, as well as DJs, kai, and a place of connection, remembrance and renewal for all. Iwi manaaki Ngāti Whātua Ōrakei, will be joining the celebrations as Ahi Kā, keepers of the fires of Tāmaki Makaurau. We invite you to gather around the fire to share in this special time of year with us, down at Silo Park. Whānau Mārama: New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) 19 July - 6 August, ASB Theatre It's the best time of the year for movie lovers. The ASB Waterfront Theatre is one of the venues for Whānau Mārama: New Zealand International Film Festival and is screening some of the most anticipated local films of the year, and the shorts collections which are always a great way to discover new talent.
