Alliance News: XLP CEO releases book on Grangs

CSJ Staff attended the booklaunch of CSJ Advisory Board member Patrick Regan (pictured) this week. 'Fighting Chance' puts the lessons learnt from gang-intervention charity XLP and exposes the growing problem of gang culture in Britain today.

The launch on 16 June in Elephant and Castle, also saw the launch of the new XLP bus and website www.fightingchance.me At the launch Patrick explained that the book challenges the reader to look past the stereotypes and engage with the young people involved: to mentor them, listen to them and to inspire them to consider a different way of life - before it is too late. It also looks to what drives young people into gangs; including poverty, family breakdown, and the need to belong. But the focus is on the solution: how to prevent people joining gangs in the first place, and how to help those deeply involved find a way out.

Patrick Regan was on the CSJ Gangs Working Group.
