Saturday Edition
Good morning and happy Saturday, members! It is time to take a break from the daily hustle and bustle and focus instead on recharging and enjoying this lovely weekend. To kick off our Saturday morning newsletter, I'd like to ask… What are your plans for today? I (Vella) will be spending my morning cleaning my room. A tidy room in the new year always feels so refreshing! Also, I believe that if my room is clean, my life will be more together, and that healthy habits will follow. So, I'm off to start my day with a clean slate! And in the afternoon, I'll attend my friend's wedding as a bridesmaid. A pretty jam-packed first week of the year, if I do say so myself! I predict that this year will be a good year! I just know it!
Speaking of predictions, we plan on creating an SDC 2023 Bingo Card— now, this isn’t any ordinary bingo card… It’s our predictions for 2023. We’d love to hear your 2023 predictions! Feel free to share them with us in our forum thread here.
Before we get too carried away chatting, let's get into today's activities, starting with the answer to yesterday's riddle! So what was it again?
At the playground, there are a total of ten bicycles and tricycles. If the combined number of wheels is twenty-four, how many tricycles are there?
Did you get it? The answer is four! So there are four tricycles and six bicycles. How did we get this answer? Well, we know that a bicycle has two wheels and a tricycle has three. So, if we set up an equation using the variables x (for the number of bicycles) and y (for the number of tricycles), it would look like 2x + 3y = 24. From there, we can solve for y to get y = 4. What do you think? Was that too easy? Or just the right amount of challenge? If you got it correct, you'll find a shout-out waiting for you at the bottom of this newsletter.
Now, onto our next segment for the day: 'What Would the Grandkids Say?' Today's phrase is 'Sksksksk'. This is a popular phrase used by kids today to convey happiness or laughter. It is often used when something is amusing, or you approve of something. It can also be used when you're in disbelief, or you're surprised. For example, if your grandkid got an A on their test, you could say, 'Sksksksk', or if they do something funny, you could say, 'Sksksksk, that was hilarious!' So next time your grandkids do or say something funny, make sure to use this phrase! Admittedly, this one does work better over text or email as it’s a
mouthful.

For today’s Yesterday’s Australia, we have a lovely memory brought to us by member @SirExton. ‘I arrived in Perth, WA as a backpacker in December 1980 and was introduced to the Poms night at the Broadway Tavern Crawley on Monday nights. The Poms would be on one side of the pub, the Aussies on the other side, with any other nationality sat in the middle. There were two guys, one who played the piano, another the guitar and a lady named Joyce who would walk around with a bucket for donations for charity. Anyone could get up and sing or tell
a joke. The banter, singing and harmless ridicule were amazing when the Ashes cricket or world cup rugby was on.’ Read the rest of @SirExton’s memory here.
Oh my, what an incredible memory! This story reminds us that, even in the most diverse settings, we can all come together and share in the joy of life. Thank you for sharing this lovely memory, @SirExton!
