REFLECTIONS ON COP16

RegenWA Program Manager, Bonnie Jupp was recently selected by the UN Presidency to attend United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) COP16 in Riyadh. In addition to appearing on two panels, Bonnie participated in a dialogue which served as the precursor to the Riyadh Action Agenda, wherein Frontline Leaders detailed what is required to deliver on UNCCD’s landscape restoration commitments and goals. These commitments hinge on collective effort, highlighted in Bonnie’s key takeaway that “we must ensure farmers, alongside Indigenous communities, are included at the decision-making tables so that we can have clear, genuine and effective action…policies and financing are the keys to unlock scaling-up.”

This opportunity was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Meridian Institute.

COASTAL CONGRATULATIONS

A massive congratulations to Dr Michael Ewing of Cottesloe Coastcare who has been recognised for his exceptional community service in the 2025 Australia Day Honours List. Michael was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).

With a career spanning over 40 years, Mike's knowledge of farming systems and his science based approach to growing plants have been invaluable to Coastcare and coastal revegetation.

PERTH NRM CHRISTMAS PARTY

Perth NRM staff enjoyed a casual Christmas lunch together in early December, to celebrate the year that was.

We were treated to a Chinese style banquet and some interesting BYO beverages, including multi-talented Craig’s own boutique wine! Our Sustainable, Stealing Santa was a hit, with some creative gifts shared, including beautiful handmade crochet, up-cycled treasures and some crafty re-gifting.

Our staff enjoyed some time off over the Christmas closure, with many choosing to take a couple of extra weeks, to recharge over the summer holidays. We hope all our members and supporters had a wonderful Christmas and New Year and are refreshed and ready for a great 2025!

UPDATED PSHB HOST LIST

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) has revised and updated the Polyphagous Shot-Hole Borer (PSHB) host list with new plant species susceptible to infestation. The host list is intended as a guide only, with many plant species in WA having unknown susceptibility to PSHB. Regularly refer to the updated host list on DPIRD's website for the latest information.

If you are interested in booking an information session for your staff or communities, or have questions about PSHB, please email Cai Christian, the Industrial Liaison Officer, PSHB Emergency Response, DPIRD at cai.christian@dpird.wa.gov.au.

You can also submit a pest or disease report direct to DPIRD from your phone for prompt, expert support. Download the app on Google Play or at the Apple App Store. It's FREE!

Join Perth NRM on Tuesday February 18 an insightful webinar, where experts from the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) will provide an in-depth look at this destructive pest and how we can all play a role in managing its impact.
