Issue 808 Thursday, 6 June, 2024
It’s been a week of historic partnerships, new initiatives and Australian-exclusive events for the Western Australian tourism industry. On Friday, we welcomed landmark news for WA’s tourism sector and for the future of the entire state. Perth Airport and Qantas have agreed on a new 12-year deal that will deliver more international and domestic flights to WA. Overall, a massive $5 billion will be spent upgrading Perth Airport’s facilities while Qantas will deliver an extra 4.4 million seats to and from Perth by 2031. These new upgrades
and runway herald a new era for our tourism sector and allow millions of new visitors to travel to our Dream State. Celebrations continue today as we are thrilled to launch The Dream Collective, in partnership with Tourism Council WA, which is our brand-new industry recognition program that celebrates the state's leading tourism operators and experiences. The new initiative provides a platform to promote and showcase WA’s best tourism products and aims to support and encourage advancements in business quality. Inclusion in the Collective is subject to application and an ongoing evaluation process, with included operators to benefit from
additional marketing and digital promotion opportunities with Tourism WA. Rounding out a fantastic week of achievement, more than 55,000 fans packed in to watch the highly anticipated clash between top Serie A teams AC Milan and AS Roma at Optus Stadium last Friday night. The match was close to being sold out as tens of thousands of football fans cheered on their favourite teams, which was the first time the two squads had played together on Australian soil. It was great to see not even the weather dampened the success of last weekend’s Italian football takeover.
Warm regards,
