Welcome to your moment to ROAR!
Issue # 27

Dear Friend,

One thing that we know for sure is that movement in our everyday lives is a surefire way to build on our healthspan. Exercise is key to your personal longevity.

Lately, I've been fascinated by something I came across: the concept of "exercise snacks." These are small bursts of movement you can incorporate throughout your day. Beyond sticking to your regular fitness routine—whether that's running, hitting the gym, or doing yoga—consider adding quick, simple actions. This could be taking the stairs, going for a walk to complete an errand, doing a few squats to pick something up, or even lunging as you move down your hallway. Now, with spring upon us, it's the perfect time to get outside. Why not spruce up your garden or help clean up your local area? The list can be endless. Snack away.

I’ve also learned the importance of balance and flexibility warm-ups to prevent any kinds of injuries. If I’m on a phone call, I’ll sometimes stand on one foot for as long as possible to build on my balance and endurance. If I’m catching up on the news, I’ll do some squats in front of the television.

Fitness has always been one of my “life layers.” My goal is to do something five days a week, whether it is a run, a session with my trainer, hiking or cycling. Earlier this month, I headed out to Santa Fe, where I live part time to do some skiing and soak in the New Mexican sun.

Even after a day of skiing, I’m happy to go to a local trail for an early evening hike or walk up Canyon Road, one of our town’s premiere art districts, usually with family or friends in tow.

It’s never too late to start your own fitness regimen. Start with those exercise snacks and build it from there. The goal as you live longer is to be one of those people who is fit, flexible and a role model for others. If you need some help figuring out what your fitness layers should be, think about joining our Life Layering course in early April. This two-part course will help you figure that out, along with other layers that you may want to introduce into your life.

This month, I’m happy to introduce you to our two Re-Imagineers, Mary Morgan, who is embarking on her next re-imagination and John Lisko, who made the pivot from a long business career to a world that allows him to deepen his sense of purpose.

You’ll also enjoy meeting Anne Lester, a first-time author who most recently spent 15 years as Head of Retirement Solutions for JPMorgan Asset Management. Her book, “Your Best Financial Life,” is a must-read. Anne will also join us on a panel at the next ROAR MasterMind event called “You are Going to live to 100. Can you afford it?”

Our financial health is as important as our personal health, especially as we live longer lives.

This month, we're excited to introduce you to Wellthy, a fantastic resource for anyone involved in caregiving. If caregiving is part of your life, you'll find Wellthy invaluable for managing the daily responsibilities and tasks that come with caring for someone.

Once you finish reading this month’s newsletter, I suggest putting down your laptop, phone or iPad and heading out for your daily dose of movement. I’m hoping to maintain a fitness regimen for the rest of my life. In Santa Fe, I was inspired by a ski instructor who is in his 80s and has a team of skiers over 75. Now those are my kind of people! Let’s ROAR!

Take a Moment

This month I was in San Diego to give a ROAR keynote on The New Longevity to a team of design industry professionals.

One more thing...

At 92, Carmen Dell’Orefice, an American supermodel and actress, holds the distinction of being the world’s oldest working model in the fashion industry. Think Missoni, Sephora, Philipp Plein and magazine covers from L’Officiel to Marie Claire.

Here she is with Pamela Fiori, author and former Editor in Chief of Town and Country magazine, at an event celebrating the launch of a new book titled "CARMEN," which features a narrative written by Fiori.
