Hi Everyone,
What a historic year it’s been for us at Neighbourhood Centres Queensland and the Neighbourhood and Community Centres we work alongside!
After a decade of struggle due to funding cuts and lack of recognition, 2022 marks a significant turning point for Neighbourhood and Community Centres in Queensland. Our determination over so many years has led to the most significant investment in our sector since the 1970s.
Please download and read our recently published Annual Report 2022, where we reflect on the funding lift and many other changes that took place over the year. This Annual Report includes our new strategic plan for 2023-25, Project Highlights, a message from myself and our outgoing Chair Tomas Passeggi, and more.
We're happy to celebrate the impacts for our members in 2022, which has led to a visibly different sector as the year closes. We're also happy to celebrate that this year we have officially been funded by the Queensland Government as the peak body for Neighbourhood Centres in Queensland.
On Sunday we also celebrated the launch of Communities 2032 at Mount Gravatt Community Centre with Minister Leanne Enoch. Communities 2032 is a forward-thinking, ten-year strategy from the Queensland Government that further highlights the key role of neighbourhood centres as critical social infrastructure. This plan further supports our ongoing work together as a sector, across government departments and portfolios, and with our communities and broader community services ecosystem.
Neighbourhood Centres Queensland will be closed for 2 weeks from Friday 23 December 2022. We’ll be back on deck from Monday 9 of January 2023.
We’re excited about what is to come in 2023 for Neighbourhood Centres Queensland and the Neighbourhood and Community Centres across Queensland. In the meantime, we thank you for your support in 2022 and wish you and your loved ones a safe, healthy, and rejuvenating holiday season.
Kind Regards,
Em James
Chief Executive Officer, NCQ
