Amazon Voice Pilot Launches at HMH and HMSLLast week, Amazon Voice launched as a pilot at the HMH and HMSL ORs, bringing smart speaker technology (Alexa, Google Home, Siri, etc.) to the OR. Those who are part of the pilot will be able to document and query the patient’s chart with just their voice. “We doubled down on Amazon Voice! This project came out of our Center for Innovation in collaboration with our Epic teams, AWS, Pariveda and Storz. This vision required combining three initiatives — Ideate, Innovate and Iterate — to transform our health care system for what we will solve for tomorrow. Thank you all for your help in turning this vision into a reality.” – Dr. Nicholas Desai, HMSL chief medical officer and chief quality
officer.

PatientSafetyNet To Become TAPS, Adds New Functionality
Launches in February 2022Starting in February 2022, employee reporting of potential safety issues will move from Patient SafetyNet (PSN) to Transparency and Accountability in Patient Safety (TAPS). In addition to a new name, the new system will have a refreshed look and feel – but your workflows should remain the same. For managers and directors, TAPS will provide additional alerting and reporting functionality, including an ability to track actionable follow up. To prepare, impacted managers and directors will be invited to virtual training sessions by their entity quality directors. Available training dates include: - Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1–2 p.m.
- Wednesday, Dec. 22, 9–10 a.m.
- Tuesday, Dec. 28, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Jan. 4, 1–2 p.m.
- The virtual training will also be available through LMS in January for those unable to attend any of the above dates.
TAPS will be used for reporting of any patient safety concerns, including but not limited to
unexpected outcomes, malfunctioning equipment or medical devices and difficult physicians, clinicians and/or staff. The tools also provide a safe place to record issues and concerns without documentation on the patients’ legally accessible medical record. Congratulations and thank you to Terronica Wilson, a continuous quality specialist at HMH, for suggesting the new name. Additional information on TAPS will be shared closer to the program launch.
