Thursday Edition
Good morning and happy Thursday members! How are you all doing on this fine day? Are you busy preparing for the Easter holiday? Or simply relaxing with a hot cross bun in one hand and a cuppa in the other? Either way, we hope your day goes splendidly. As for us, we have a few surprises in store for you today. So, without further ado, let's get started!
First things first, it’s time to give you lot the answer to yesterday’s riddle. Let’s get a quick reminder of what it was…
A man shaves several times a day, yet he still has a beard. Who is this man?
This was a tricky one eh? Well, it seems it wasn't for all of you, though! The answer is a barber! As always, if you got the answer correct, stick around, and you’ll find a shoutout waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Now, it wouldn’t be a Thursday without our fascinating fact, now would it? Since it will be a weekend full of hot cross buns, why not share a fun fact about the popular Easter treat? Some believe that the cross on a hot cross bun represents the cross to which Jesus was crucified, but the Anglo-Saxons ate these buns, decorating them with a cross to represent the four quarters of the moon. In English folklore, it is believed that hot cross buns would help an ill person get better. Well, they may not be a cure to any illness, but they will certainly put a smile on your face. How about that for a fun fact?
Now, what’s happening across Australia and the world today?

Who remembers recording their favourite TV show on cassette to watch later? We used to do this because you couldn't watch it again once it was shown on TV. Very different to nowadays with Netflix and everything else. Who here still has some of these?

Goodies for Sylvia K's family
Today's image is thanks to our dear member Sylvia K., the winner of the SDC Photo competition. As you can see, she used the $100 voucher she won to buy groceries for her family. She sent us this photo with the caption, “I just want to thank you for my winning picture voucher to Woolworths, with this voucher, I brought a covid pack for my daughter and my grandchildren. They were so surprised and very happy to have these few treats. They appreciate it as much as I did winning this gift.”
This makes us so happy! We're proud to have members as generous as Sylvia in our club. So, here's a well-deserved shoutout to you, Sylvia, and your family! Enjoy the goodies!

Bowling turkey is a bowling lingo or term used to refer to three consecutive strikes. There is an interesting history behind the term “turkey” in bowling. A few centuries ago, bowling tournaments attracted many to the game. Typically, the prizes were food baskets, including fruits, vegetables, and in some cases, ham or even turkey. Over the years, the turkey became a popular prize awarded to the winners of bowling tournaments. The tournament organisers would advertise giving a turkey as a prize to the bowlers who could achieve three strikes in a row.
