NEWS UPDATE23 October 2026 Publishers noteLast week I had the opportunity to visit two boat shows. First, Melbourne offered a chance to take in the positive industry mood and explore the displays around Docklands’ New Quay Promenade and Harbour Esplanade, as well as on the adjacent marina. A late flight home on Saturday allowed me to follow up on Sunday with a visit to Sail Expo at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club on beautiful Pittwater. Here, too, an enthusiastic crowd enjoyed the festival atmosphere, with a fabulous line-up of vessels and displays, fine food, music and glorious weather. Weather warnings have been coming in thick and fast across various parts of the country. Whilst I’m a strong advocate for checking the BOM website before heading out, I have been puzzled by reports of rain, only to find blue skies. I’ve been reading reports that massive swarms of migrating moths are lighting up Bureau of Meteorology radars, creating false indications of rain. Nevertheless, checking the weather remains important when boating, moths or no moths. Finally, there was a quiet celebration in the Marine Business News office this week.
