Cooler weather doesn’t mean it’s time to stay inside -- there are plenty of volunteer events across Connecticut and New York this November and December. From habitat restoration to tree and marsh plantings, there are opportunities for everyone to get outside and help keep Long Island Sound healthy. Click below to learn more and sign up.Shark Egg Case Survey with Living Sharks MuseumThe Rhode Island Eggcase Survey (RIES) organized by Living Sharks Museum, is actively monitoring public beaches across RI for all elasmobranch (sharks, skates, & rays) eggcases. The data is being compiled as part of a coastal species monitoring initiative. As a citizen science opportunity, local beachcombers can sign up and report their finds! Please join the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society to clean the beach and monitor for wildlife. This time of year, it's more important than ever to be walking the beaches on the lookout for cold-stunned sea turtles. VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHTS 406 Pounds of Trash Uplifted Along with Volunteers’ Spirits
About 50 volunteers joined the Aug. 16 kickoff of the 2025 #DontTrashLISound campaign along the New Haven shoreline, removing 406 pounds of trash in just two hours. Families, local groups, and even a visiting book club pitched in to protect Long Island Sound and keep the coast clean. Read more about the event and the volunteers’ experiences.
