NEWS UPDATE

27 June 2025

Publishers note

This week’s edition reflects on the legacy of one of Australia’s most revered sailing figures—Hugh Treharne OAM—whose passing marks the end of a remarkable era in our maritime community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched across a his sailing career.

We also acknowledge the appointment of an old mate and business colleague, Bruce Rayment to the team at Webbe Marine. Congratulations to Bruce on this new chapter and the valuable experience he brings to the role.

Our industry conversations continue to inspire. It was a pleasure speaking with Karen Baldwin about her dedication to the Making Waves Foundation and its transformative impact on young lives through sailing.

Last week also marked a significant environmental milestone, as the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority celebrated its 50th anniversary. We commend the enduring commitment to protecting one of the world’s most iconic marine environments.

Finally, the Australian National Maritime Museum made headlines with its formal confirmation of the final resting place of HM Bark Endeavour—an extraordinary conclusion to a decades-long search and an important addition to our nation’s historical narrative.

A diverse and engaging news week—thank you for joining us.

I do hope you enjoy this week’s news.
