September 2022 Action Report

100th Anniversary of the Building of the Arch Bridge

On Saturday, October 1st, Oregon City and West Linn hosted the Arch Bridge Celebration. It was a perfect day to host a event on the bridge. A light breeze, excited visitors and dignitaries, and fun music made for a perfect event.

The Arch Bridge marketing committee, which is made up of both Oregon City and West Linn partners, worked hard to promote this event. In a coordinated effort on October 14th, Travel Oregon City, the City of Oregon City and the City of West Linn, triggered a social media "takeover" campaign promoting the event listing, videos developed by the Oregon Department of Transportation, and general historical facts about the construction of the bridge.

Attendance at this one time event was estimated to be 2000 visitors through out the time period the bridge was closed.

Marketing Report

The numbers are coming in as we report the results of our marketing activity through social and digital media!  If there is something you would like clarification on, more detailed information, or a report you feel would be beneficial to the Oregon City’s Tourism Industry, please email  dgering@orcity.org.

Website

Visitors - Summer is winding down and the numbers were coming down as expected. Social media is still driving traffic to the website, and we are scaling back our Google Ads to one general campaign. We are about to roll out a new Shopping category so we will push another keyword driven campaign just in time for the holiday season.

Site Engagement -For the month of September we experimented with display advertising but the numbers were not even close to expectations. Even though it did drive some traffic to the website, the actual engagement was so poor, with an average session duration of 27 seconds and almost no conversion clicks to our partner websites. The dollar spent to capture more visitors did not justify continuing, due to such a low return on investment.

We did a paid social ad support for the "Who Was Here Before the Settlers Arrived" event at the Holmes House as our only Oregon City event outside of the promotions for the Arch Bridge Celebration.
