Racing to Stop Lung Cancer

At the Starting Line with Katie & Meredith

New year, new milestones! Team LUNGevity is gearing up for an incredible 2025, and we couldn’t be more excited. With a slate of new races—including the newest Abbott World Marathon Major, the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS—this is shaping up to be one of our strongest years ever.

Every step we take and every dollar we raise is fueling critical lung cancer research and bringing hope to those who need it most. Our community is growing, our impact is expanding, and we’re just getting started.

Let’s make 2025 the biggest year yet for Team LUNGevity! Whether you’re joining us at the starting line or cheering from the sidelines, we can’t wait to chase down new achievements together.

Onward and upward,

Off to a Strong Start

From the sunny streets of Miami to the rolling hills of Napa Valley, and the vibrant energy of New York City to the spirited Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago, Team LUNGevity continues to go the distance, turning every race into a powerful step toward a future without lung cancer. Congratulations to all our incredible athletes for their dedication and passion!

Life Time Miami Marathon and Half
February 2
Team LUNGevity made its debut at the Life Time Miami Marathon and Half with seven incredible participants, including 31-year-old lung cancer survivor Reyshley Ann Ramos Márquez and her partner, Luis Echevarria Arroyo, from Puerto Rico. Together, we raised nearly $7,000 for lung cancer research and programs, marking a powerful first appearance at this exciting race.

Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon
March 2

Ellen Durkin ran her first marathon at the Kaiser Permanente Napa Valley Marathon, dedicating every mile to her father, Tom Durkin, who passed away from small cell lung cancer in 2022. She raised $1,200 to further LUNGevity’s mission. More than just a personal achievement, her race was a powerful tribute and a step toward a future free of lung cancer. Congratulations, Ellen, on an incredible race and for making a difference, one mile at a time!

"My dad was my biggest supporter and cheered me on at countless meets and community races. I wanted to run this race in his memory while making a difference in the fight against lung cancer."

United Airlines NYC Half
March 16
Team LUNGevity’s fourth year at the United Airlines NYC Half was a huge success with our largest team ever. Our 24 athletes more than doubled last year’s fundraising with an incredible total of $41,803! We had a blast at our team brunch, race-day cheer station, and post-race happy hour.

Special shout-out to our three repeaters, Christine Abraham, Melissa Cohen, and Steffany Conyers, who ran with us for the second year in a row!

Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle
March 23

It was another great day turning Chicago green at the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle! Team LUNGevity is very lucky to have some amazing athletes who used this race as another chance to dedicate their miles to those affected by lung cancer.

Celebrating Our Creative Fundraisers

Our fundraisers go above and beyond—not just in their athletic pursuits, but in the unique and meaningful ways they raise funds to stop lung cancer. From dance classes to custom t-shirts, these creative strategies make fundraising fun while honoring loved ones. Check out how Elisha-Rio and Kevin turned their passions into powerful ways to support LUNGevity, and let their ideas inspire your next fundraising adventure!

Elisha-Rio's Dance Against Cancer
Combining her passions for lung cancer research, running, and dance, Elisha-Rio is hosting Dance Against Cancer as part of her fundraising for the BMW Berlin Marathon in memory of her dad. With the generous support of several dance instructors who have volunteered their time, Elisha-Rio has organized a variety of classes for her friends, family, and anyone else interested in dancing for a great cause. For a $13 donation (her dad’s lucky number), participants can enjoy dance cardio, beginner’s hip hop, and more. The series has already raised over $1,000. With classes available through August, we wish Elisha-Rio continued success with her fundraising efforts!

Kevin’s Team Terry T-Shirts
Honoring his mom, who was diagnosed with lung cancer last year, Kevin created Team Terry for the United Airlines NYC Half. With 12 athletes strong, they raised over $27,000! To help others show support for Terry, Kevin and his team designed custom t-shirts to sell with 100% of the proceeds to go towards their fundraising! This beautiful design is such a thoughtful way to bring in more donations and show their love for Terry.
