Welcome to our roundup of all things Cambridge Mathematics
A message from our DirectorDear reader Marhaba, This is our last newsletter of 2025, a year filled with new products, new research work, and new projects. Mathematics and mathematics education were and remain the stars of the show, and while AI is now playing a bigger role and gaining more attention, keeping the human element at the core of what we do remains key. This year, we launched our hub for Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics Education (AIMED); we started our Staffroom Catch-Up podcast; we welcomed our first two interns; we released our second mathematics-focused Minecraft game; we published various articles and book chapters; we participated in local and international events; and we led or contributed to several projects, on our own or with Cambridge colleagues. Another exciting development was welcoming two team members as Framework Writers and Implementation Leads: Nadia who joined us a couple of months ago, and more recently Tabitha, who re-joins after nearly a year's absence. You all probably remember Tabs from her Framework writing work, her leading role in our professional learning activities, and from co-starring in our Framework-related videos! We are excited to have them both with us, and might be announcing more joiners in 2026 – who knows? You'll find in this issue two episodes of our podcast – a great way to spend quality time with Fran and her guests and listen to their stories and insights – and a blog by Ray where League of Legends and mathematics come together, proving yet again that mathematics and gaming are not exclusive! Also, you'll read our latest interview, this time with Dr Henna Koivusalo, and discover the new laboratory section on AIMED and learn about some of what we are cooking with AI. As 2025 draws to a close and as we prepare to welcome 2026, we all wish you, from Cambridge Mathematics, the happiest holidays and a new year filled with all that your heart wishes and hopes for. May your joyful moments grow exponentially, your sorrows converge to zero, and your peace of mind approach infinity. See you in 2026! We have a lot of plans, many innovative ideas, and so much to share with you. So, do stay tuned and please keep in touch. Best wishes,
Welcome to our new team memberTabitha Gould rejoins us as a Framework Writer & Implementation Lead Tabitha leads on the writing and development of the Cambridge Mathematics Framework. She contributes to research and thought leadership in mathematics education, including the design of innovative professional learning journeys and resources from Cambridge Mathematics.
Staffroom Catch-Up podcastConversations beyond their original settings, with practitioners about what 'educational research' means to them and how it impacts their work
Episode 5: 'Becoming maths people'Host Fran Watson chats with associate professor Dr Rachel Oughton, head teacher Sarah Dixon-Jones and nursery lead practitioner Kathryn Nichols.
Episode 6: 'It's made me a better practitioner'Join Fran Watson as she speaks with Julie DeFuyck, a Year 6 teacher and maths lead from a rural primary school, about her journey with educational research. Our latest blogsRead our latest blogs here!
Game on: The maths and data behind professional League of LegendsJoin Ray as he delves into the world of esports and explores the wealth of data and mathematical analysis involved.
Seven questions with... Dr Henna KoivusaloSenior Lecturer Dr Henna Koivusalo is the latest mathematician to answer our seven questions. AIMED LaboratoryA handful of experiments involving AI, focused on our Framework and beyond.
We've just launched the AIMED laboratory on our website! These experiments are still in testing phase but are very promising. The goal is to harness the power of AI in various cases while still adopting a 'human in the loop' approach to ensure validity and accuracy.
