There is a sense of destiny at Sedbergh, and an air of excitement, as we approach our 500th. There will be much activity in the months to come and as part of this we have updated the look and feel of the newsletter. Here we will report on the wider Sedbergh School Community, as well as news from the OS Club. OS NewsOS Imo Boddy creates history with endurance world recordImo Boddy (R 15-17) has etched her name into the record books for the second time in two years, as she completed the UK National Three Peaks on foot in just over 6 days.
E.A.D Campbell, Schoolmaster at Sedbergh 1974-2004It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Ed (Ned) Campbell, former member of staff, who finally lost his battle with cancer on 12th June 2024. ‘The Brits are Coming’ World Tour of the USAThe intrepid explorers Jan van der Velde and Ben Collins have returned from their world tour of the USA to report that our Sedbergh siblings across the pond are in fine form. The OS Club’s Wild Party for the YoungI often feel proud to be a Sedberghian but no more so than at our Gathering of the Young (2006-2020 OS Reunion) on the 13th June at Brown’s Restaurant in Covent Garden, London. The Wonderful People of the United StatesOne of the memorable aspects of our World tour of the USA is the wonderful people Ben and I met on our travels before returning to New York. Here are some that made our trip such a great experience. Alice Kerr - Winter Climbing and Mountaineering Instructor AwardOS Alice Kerr (R 03-12) started her school career at Sedbergh when she joined the Junior School at Bentham in 2003. Alice quickly established herself as a brilliant sports woman. The GangSome of you may know Nigel Barden (P72-77) from his radio show on the BBC. He is a food and drink broadcaster and champion. Gary Mitchinson wins Olivier AwardCongratulations to OS Gary Mitchinson (W03-08) who, along with the cast of “Dinosaur World Live”, was very recently awarded an Olivier Award (2024) for “The Best Family Show”. 80th Anniversary of the D-Day LandingsThursday 6th June 2024 marked 80 years since the D-Day landings. D-Day, or Operation Overlord, played a pivotal role in liberating northern France and moving towards the eventual defeat of Germany. Congratulations to Phil Dowson (H 93-00) and Alex Moon (W 12-15) on winning the Premiership title with Northampton SaintsHARKEN! Album Launch in Buxton on 8th JulyThe album was inspired by Sedbergh’s HARK values and was composed by Ben Crosland (H64-69) as part of the 500th anniversary celebrations of the School. It is wonderful to see the reception that the album has received in the world of jazz. Alan Waxman (W74-79)It was a great pleasure to recently interview Alan Waxman, founder of Landmass London. Paul Sidi Cycles Across the USA in Aid of the Doddie Weir FoundationSome of you may remember the amazing Sedbergh 1st XV rugby captain Paul Sidi (W73-78).

Bridgewater Hall Concert 3rd February 2025The 500 festivities will kick off with a grand concert at the prestigious Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, setting the tone for a year of jubilation and reflection. OS Wilson Run Dinner 2025The Old Sedberghian Club will be hosting the 2025 OS Wilson Run Dinner on Monday 24th March in Powell Hall.
