NEWS UPDATE28 November 2025 Publishers noteNew technology is never too far away, particularly as alternatives to the combustion engine continue to gain momentum worldwide. Last month I attended the Discover Maritime Innovations 2025 Conference, where the room was full of people considering what they believe the future of maritime operations may look like. It wasn’t a gathering of purely green-leaning individuals; while many were, the majority were simply there to engage, listen, and understand what is unfolding. It took some time to absorb everything, and in turn, this week Marine Business News published our interpretation in a story called “Discover Maritime Innovations 2025: A Sector No Longer Talking About Change — But Building It.” On that same theme, new product announcements in the electric propulsion space continue to emerge. ePropulsion has launched Spirit 2. Danny Tao, Co-founder and CEO of ePropulsion, said “Spirit 2 embodies our vision for the future of electric boating, where power and portability go hand in hand.” In Australia, ePropulsion is distributed by Power Equipment. Meanwhile in the UK, RAD Propulsion has expanded its range with a 120-kW electric drive, which they say is “designed to meet the growing demand for higher power marine propulsion solutions.” Closer to home, I had the opportunity this week to attend an event in Brisbane hosted by Yanmar, where an international contingent demonstrated the Yanmar Hydrogen Fuel Cell Boat. The technology has come a long way, with ongoing work to bring it to commercial reality. Their initial focus remains on the commercial vessel market, with recreational applications still some distance away. As always, my selection of top stories leads this eNews, with the remainder grouped in the summaries below. We do hope you enjoy this week’s news.
