The legalization of marijuana—both recreational and medicinal—continues to sweep the nation. As a result, many employers are facing the same, perplexing question: Should we continue drug testing employees for marijuana? Following President’s Biden’s October 6th announcement regarding how the federal government is to handle marijuana, The Congressional Research Service, issued its report on actions now being undertaken by federal government authorities and what options are now available to Congress. President Joe Biden’s much-ballyhooed move to pardon people charge with federal offenses for simple marijuana possession could mean renewed hopes to thousands of people with these convictions who may have been denied employment opportunities. People are testing positive for drug use in the manufacturing sector at a higher rate. Alcohol is clearly the single most used and abused drug in America making it the number one threat to workplace safety.
