NEWS UPDATE20 May 2022 Publishers noteAt time of writing, I have not long arrived back to the hotel having attended the first day of the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show. It was an absolute delight to be able to re-engage with industry face-to-face, personally not having attended a boat show for three years. The last ironically being the Sydney International Boat Show in 2019 that would end up being my last at the helm. The apprehension I approached the show with was ultimately unfounded given the substantial welcome I received both personally, and for Marine Business News. My attendance at the show followed an excellent experience having participated at ASMEX2022 immediately prior. Congratulations to President Jeremy Spear, CEO David Good and the entire team at Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) who also operates Superyacht Australia and the Australian Commercial Marine Group, for their excellent event. I must also mention my first engagement at the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show. It was the launch of three new vessels by Australian iconic and mega brand Maritimo. What struck me was the sincerity with which it was conducted. Central to the event was Tom Barry-Cotter (pictured with me), son of the legendary Bill Barry-Cotter. Tom has taken a significant lead in the business and now comfortably presents as the face of the brand. This has led me to think about our industry, and the many participants who are the next generation, that have successfully been able to build and nurture their family businesses. There are many, and this can only bode well, as these emerging leaders are exactly what our industry needs to take us positively into the future.
