Hot Days, Cool Rooms—What to Pack

St. Louis in the summer can be described as...pleasantly warm, with the occasional pop-up shower. Thankfully, VPPPA's 2025 Safety+ is mostly indoors but, for the times you'll venture outside (Tailgate Reception, VPPPA's Night at the Ballpark, St. Louis' various dining and nightlife options...) be sure to pack an umbrella. Because, as safety people, we're always prepared!

Indoors (sessions)=business casual.
Outdoors (fun)=comfort.

Don't forget to pick up your 2025 Safety+ t-shirt when registering!

Opening General Session: Mark Denton on Leadership Through Adversity

We're kicking off VPPPA's 2025 Safety+ with a keynote who's been around the world. Mark Denton is a leadership, team and resilience expert with vast experience navigating turbulent waters. In his professional sailing career he’s competed in countless races and sailed over 80,000 miles across the worlds’ oceans.

Mark will lead attendees on an ‘edge of your seat’ multi-media journey through the ups, downs, twists and turns of leading an amateur team to success in the ‘world’s toughest’ around-the-world yacht race. And as this epic journey unfolds, the secrets are revealed that allowed this team to thrive when facing constant adversity, change and competition.

Even better? Join Mark after the opening general session in the exhibit hall at the VPPPA booth for the opportunity to meet the adventurer!

Closing Keynote: Former NASA Astronaut Mike Massimino

VPPPA's 2025 Safety+ closes with a legend who's...been around the world (but from a higher altitude).

Mike Massimino, a former NASA astronaut, is a professor of mechanical engineering at Columbia University and the senior advisor for space programs at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. He received a BS from Columbia University, and MS degrees in mechanical engineering and in technology and policy, as well as a PhD in mechanical engineering, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Mike was selected as an astronaut by NASA in 1996, and is the veteran of two space flights, the fourth and fifth Hubble Space Telescope servicing missions in 2002 and 2009. Mike has a team record for the number of hours spacewalking in a single space shuttle mission, and he was also the first person to tweet from space.
