Friday Edition
Good morning, members! Fancy seeing you here! Whew, what a week it’s been, eh? Have you achieved everything you set out to do this week? We certainly hope so because we know how important it is to stay active and engaged, especially as we get older. Speaking of which, what is a typical day like for you? Do you like to get up early and make the most of the morning? Or do you prefer to take your time and enjoy a leisurely start to the day? Let us know in our forum here.
Oh, we also have a language recommendation from our member Klaudija K. who suggested we learn good morning in Australian Indigenous languages! Today, we’ll be learning some Ngarigo language. This language is spoken by the Ngarigo people, traditional custodians of southeast New South Wales. Let’s start with Nooringe (noo-reenj) [Ngarigo greeting]! We know there are many more Aboriginal languages than just this one, so we’ll feature a different language each day. If you have any suggestions, please let us know here!
Anyway, we’re getting a bit off track here. Let’s get back to business, shall we? As it’s Friday, it’s time for the third and final riddle of the week! This one is brought to us by member Dennis R. Thanks for this great riddle, Dennis!
How do you make the number one disappear?
Now that’s a good one, isn’t it? We’ve been scratching our heads over here, but we’re sure you can do better! If you think you know the answer, head over to the riddle masters thread here. If you get the answer correct, we will give you a shout-out in tomorrow’s newsletter!
Oh, and before we get into today’s stories, we just wanted to remind you to check out our Coles Best Buys. There are some great bargains featured on there this week!

For today’s ‘Yesterday Australia’ segment, we have a lovely memory courtesy of member @Alioops. ‘I can recall in detail our tanned “Bill the Breadman” with his cane basket, shorts with skinny legs, leather fold-over bag attached to his waist rattling with coins. That unforgettable overpowering smell of fresh bread. As Bill arrived on the backstep of the kitchen door, always friendly, sweating from running, always with time for a quick chat as Mum made him routinely an orange cordial in a long glass that he gulped down in one go. The joke in the family was when my little brother Peter called him Dad. Not surprisingly, Dad was away a lot, so why not call "Bill",
Dad?’
What a beautiful memory! Ah, the smell of fresh bread. It’s a smell that can take you back to a specific time and place in an instant. The breadmen were always such a friendly bunch and held a special place in our hearts. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful memory with us, @Alioops.

Permanent Sunrise
Today’s stunning picture is thanks to member @Kazbah33. They posted this photo in our photography forum with the caption, ‘It’s time for the Swell Sculpture Festival again on the Gold Coast. This is part of a massive work called Permanent Sunrise by Alejandro Propato. The picture does not do it justice, but it gives a taste of it.’
Wow, everything about this photo is incredible! The colours, the ocean waves glistening in the sun, and the scale of the sculpture make for a breathtaking scene. Thank you, @Kazbah33, for sharing this amazing photo with us. Every year, dozens of artists from all over the world come to display their work at the Swell Sculpture Festival, and it’s always a feast for the eyes. If you’re ever in the area, be sure to check it out!
