The course is part of the PAHO’s learning itinerary on care for older people, following the basic level, which is also available in PAHO's Virtual Campus for Public Health. ACAPEM-I is intended for health professionals mainly from the first level of care, so that they can acquire specific skills to achieve integrated and person-centered care focused on older people. These actions will promote better health trajectories for the older people of today and tomorrow. New article: COVID-19 and institutional long-term care: strategies in four Latin American countriesThe COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected older individuals, particularly those residing in long-term care (LTC) facilities. A study examining the responses of Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, and Mexico to this crisis revealed that while all four countries implemented measures such as isolation protocols and vaccination campaigns targeting LTC facilities, there was a notable absence of comprehensive data on the number, distribution, and characteristics of these facilities, their residents, and staff. This information gap has impeded the effective implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of COVID-19 response strategies within institutional long-term care settings across Latin America.
