Performance Excellence: Putting it All Together

Over the last three weeks, you have heard stories from staff about how Daily Management elements like huddle boards and Kaizen Events have made positive impacts on their departments and units. If you missed any of them, you can watch them here. In this week’s video, your colleagues share how the entirety of Performance Excellence helps break down departmental barriers and encourages cross-hospital collaboration.

BONUS: The response to the Daily Management video giveaways was so positive, we decided to do a bonus giveaway! 20 employees who watch this video will win an Astros duffle bag! Like the saying goes: you can’t win if you don’t play. Good luck!

Culture of Safety Awards

The 2022 Culture of Safety Awards are Tuesday, October 18. This is the 7th year we have presented these systemwide awards and this year more than 1,100 nominations were submitted across the entire system. This is a testament to HM’s commitment to safety, quality, service, and innovation. You can live stream this event on Vimeo, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Good luck to all nominees!

HMSL Staff Choir

Join the HMSL Staff Choir! Practices begin Wednesday, October 19 to prepare for the Christmas Concert on December 14. The group also carols in our units. The group needs both vocalists and individuals who play percussion or strings. This is open to all staff and volunteers at HMSL. If you are interested, click here to email music therapist Ashley Lundquist.

HMSL Hospitalists

When patients are admitted for surgery or medical treatment, their day-to-day care can be managed by the Houston Methodist Sugar Land team of hospitalists, who are experts in providing specialized, coordinated care. There is a hospitalist available 24/7 on-site, and they are here to work as a team with all of our hospital staff. Get to know our hospitalists by clicking here.

Town Square Events

HMSL has a partnership for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2022 with Sugar Land Town Square. You will see Houston Methodist represented in many exciting ways at the following events:

  • October 21 – Poison tribute concert
  • October 28 – R&B concert
  • October 29 – Dia de los Muertos family event

If you visit Town Square and see installations like the one here, please snap a photo and share in Chris' Corner!

Above and Beyond Award

The HMSL Employee Morale Committee presented their first-ever Quarterly Award to a department. The inaugural recipient was the Spiritual Care team. They have been integral in helping our staff through the trials of the pandemic. Read more about the award and how to nominate a department here.

It’s Pharmacy Week! From October 17 to October 21 we honor the important work of our pharmacy team. We have a vast pharmacy department on our campus – with three locations to efficiently serve our patients. October 19 is also Pharmacy Technicians Day! Read more about this department and others celebrating this month by clicking here.

Feel-Good Moment

We recently recognized Perinatal Nurses week, which honors the great individuals who care for our mothers and babies in the Childbirth Center. To celebrate, HMSL employees shared photos on Chris’ Corner of their babies they delivered here. The post is sure to warm your heart and you can see it here. Thanks to Michelle Smith, assistant to the director of the Childbirth Center, for the creative and cute way to celebrate staff!

PATIENT COMPLIMENTS

Brazos 4 Patient: "It was a very nice place. Everyone was nice, polite, friendly and kind. You can't beat that you're simply the best."

Breast Care Center Patient: "I would like to say that Tiffany was the best technician that I've ever experienced there. Everyone has always been really amazing, but she just really took it to the next level of care. She made this the least painless mammogram I've ever had in my life and I've had many. She showed me a certain way to lean over the machine and it just made it less painful than it ever has been. She's just a very kind, sweet lady."

PT/OT Patient: "I was apprehensive at the beginning but Jonas, the therapist, made me feel at ease with therapy. As I followed his instructions on what to do at home, I felt better. My hip and leg pains seemed to go away and I function normally now."
