Football fans will be thrilled to hear that Western Australia has secured another exciting international football exhibition match. In an Asia Pacific exclusive, two of Italy’s most successful men’s football clubs, AC Milan and AS Roma, will go head-to-head at Optus Stadium on Friday, 31 May. Both teams belong to the top level of Italy’s Serie A football league — one of the best leagues in the world — and the Perth match will be the first time two Serie A teams have ever played each other on Australian soil. As well as enticing thousands of out-of-state fans to book an extended Perth visit around the event, the match will showcase our
city to viewers watching from home. With the popular direct flight between Rome and Perth set to return for a third season in 2024, the match will also further foster WA’s connection with Italy as we continue to encourage more visitors from Italy and Continental Europe to visit Western Australia and access the rest of the country through Perth, as the nation’s Western Gateway. The May 2024 event will be the latest international football showcase set to thrill fans, after last year’s London Derby with English Premier League teams Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in July. These matches generated over $13 million dollars in visitor
expenditure and attracted nearly 8,000 out-of-state visitors to Perth and I’m excited to see this match deliver similar results for our Dream State.
