We have exciting news!

It has been a busy summer at Thameswood Vets. As well as the introduction of a new package for nervous pets, we are also launching our new online appointment booking system too. Both initiatives are two ways we are making life better for you and your pets. We also have an exciting new dental offer running until the end of October and a wonderful case story of our patient, Todd, which will put a smile on your face.

Todd’s journey to healthier skin and greater comfort

Todd had been struggling with persistent itching and ongoing skin problems, which were having a significant impact on his comfort and quality of life. His symptoms were proving challenging to manage, so comprehensive allergy testing was carried out to help identify the underlying causes.

The results confirmed that Todd had multiple environmental and food allergies, including sensitivities to pollen, grasses and dust mites.

With a clearer understanding of his allergies, we were able to develop a comprehensive, tailored management plan for Todd. This included transitioning him onto a strict hypoallergenic diet alongside a combination of clinical treatments, including Cytopoint, allergen-specific immunotherapy and Numelvi.

Over time, this multimodal approach has made a significant difference to Todd. The before-and-after photographs demonstrate a marked improvement in his skin health and coat quality, with a noticeable reduction in the signs associated with his allergies.

Most importantly, Todd is now much more comfortable. Although his allergies require ongoing management, combining dietary management with targeted treatments has helped to control his symptoms and improve his overall quality of life.

Todd’s case highlights the importance of identifying the underlying triggers of chronic skin disease and taking a personalised, long-term approach to allergy management. By combining several treatment strategies, we can help patients like Todd live happier, more comfortable lives despite their ongoing allergies.

Our New Calming Package

Helping to make every visit a little less stressful, which makes life better. The Calming Package is available for just £18 per pet!

We know that visiting the vet can be stressful for some pets, and their owners too! After listening to feedback from many of our clients, we’re pleased to introduce our Calming Package, designed to help reduce anxiety and make your pet’s visit more comfortable..

If your pet becomes particularly anxious when they visit us, our veterinary team may recommend anxiolytic (stress-reducing) medication to be given the night before and again 1–2 hours before their appointment.

These medications are not sedatives. They are prescribed specifically to help reduce your pet’s anxiety and stress, allowing them to feel more comfortable and relaxed during their visit.

Why can reducing stress help?

A calmer pet can make a big difference, particularly if they are coming in for a procedure or need to stay with us for the day. Reducing stress may help with:

  • A more comfortable experience for your pet
  • Less anxiety for both you and your pet
  • Smoother handling and procedures
  • More reliable blood pressure and blood test results
  • Smoother anaesthesia and recovery in some cases

Every pet is different, so the medication used will be selected and prescribed by our veterinary team according to your pet’s individual needs.

Additional calming support

As part of helping your pet feel more at ease, we can also recommend calming aids such as pheromone sprays, including Feliway for cats and DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheromone) for dogs, as well as Pet Remedy herbal spray.

How does the Calming Package work?

The package is available for pets who are attending for either a consultation or a day admission. If you think your pet could benefit, simply ask our reception team when booking your appointment, or speak to us before your visit.

If your pet finds vet visits difficult, please don't worry; you're not alone. We're here to work with you to make their experience as calm, comfortable and positive as possible.
