King James I’s early battle against tobacco

In 1604, King James I of England raised early alarms about tobacco, condemning it as harmful to the lungs and brain. He wrote A Counterblaste to Tobacco and proposed heavy taxes, aiming to curb its use long before its health risks were widely acknowledged.
