Friday Edition
Good morning to each and every one of our beloved members! As I’m sure you’re already aware, today is November 11th, also known as Remembrance Day. On the 11th hour of this 11th day, please stop what you are doing and observe a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the brave men and women who served and who died for our nation. Our thoughts especially go out to any members who served, including nurses, and those who have family members who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
The Australian War Memorial will commemorate Remembrance Day 2022 with a National Ceremony. This will also be broadcast live from the Australian War Memorial on ABC TV from 10:45am AEDT.
You may like to virtually visit a memorial through Places of Pride. There are also hundreds of articles available for free online about veterans and their service that you can
read here.
We will, now and forever, remember them. Lest we forget.

On November 11, 1918, the First World War came to an end after four long years of fighting. People around Australia rejoiced at the end of ‘the war to end all wars’ that had claimed more than 60,000 Australian lives. In Sydney, people crowded the streets, cheering and waving flags. In Adelaide, cinema and theatre performances were stopped as the news broke, and everyone sang patriotic songs and went up and down the streets with flags. Parties continued in rural towns as news of the armistice reached them from the cities.
A century later, we continue to remember the sacrifice of those who served in the First World War and give thanks for the peace that we enjoy today.

A travel agent looked up from his desk to see an older lady and an older gentleman peering in the shop window at the posters showing glamorous destinations around the world.
The agent had had a good week, and the dejected couple looking in the window gave him a rare feeling of generosity.

Purple poppies are worn to honour animals who were victims of war. The purple poppy was created in 2006 by the charity Animal Aid to commemorate animals that served during conflicts as the charity viewed that they had been the forgotten victims of war. Many war horses, dogs and pigeons were killed during service in WW1.
