COVID-19 Public Health Emergency Status Officially EndsThe nationwide Public Health Emergency due to COVID-19, which for three years changed how patients received healthcare and how researchers conducted clinical trials, officially ended last month. For as many challenges as those three years brought, we also found new techniques and strategies to deliver healthcare that were positive and can be used going forward. In a recently published article in the Journal of the American Medical Association, Dr. Elizabeth Barksdale, LUNGevity's Director of Regulatory Affairs and Scientific Policy, explains how clinical trials should prioritize the flexibilities that were allowed during the public health emergency to improve access to care. In this article, Dr. Barksdale urges researchers to keep the practices that proved helpful to patients and increased participation in clinical trials. As for the daily changes that affect healthcare delivery, we recently highlighted and explained the most notable ones you should be aware of. These include access to COVID-19 vaccines, telehealth for Medicare recipients, and the end of the temporary Medicaid expansion program. Policy Focus: Court Case Challenges Private Insurance Coverage for Screening Costs
