VILLAGE STARTS WORK ON NEW FLEET MAINTENANCE GARAGE

This week, the Village celebrated the start of interior demolition for the new Fleet Maintenance Garage, an important investment in the infrastructure that supports everyday services across Northbrook. Located at 3504 Commercial Avenue, the project is an adaptive reuse of an existing building that will be transformed into a modern, efficient facility for Public Works operations.

The new garage will serve as the central hub for maintaining and repairing more than 325 Village vehicles and pieces of equipment, ranging from ambulances and fire apparatus to snowplows and service trucks. Designed to operate 24 hours a day, the facility will include small, large, and express maintenance bays, fabrication and welding areas for in-house repairs, organized parts storage, and flexible workspaces that can adapt as fleet and operational needs evolve.

In addition to improving efficiency and reducing vehicle downtime, the facility was designed with employee safety and wellness in mind. Enhanced staff amenities and geothermal heating and cooling will support a safer, more comfortable work environment while also improving long-term energy efficiency and sustainability.

Construction is expected to be completed in December 2026. Once finished, the new Fleet Maintenance Garage will help ensure essential Village services and public safety operations continue to run safely and efficiently for years to come.
