Monday Edition
Hello and happy Monday, ladies and gents! Far from my anti-Monday stance, I am now back to my usual self of being all nice and sweet on the first day of the week, hoping Monday takes mercy on me and doesn’t send a curveball today. Please be kind to me (and all of us) Monday! I swear I didn’t mean anything I said yesterday! I’m still taking notes on how to take away the Monday blues, so if you haven’t already, join the conversation here.
Now, while I try my best to stay in Monday’s good graces, here’s this week’s first riddle:
I can be green or black, I can be bland or sweet. I can be red or yellow, and I’m indeed a treat. What am I?
Ugh, this one stumped me! But I have no doubt you riddle masters will be able to crack this riddle in no time… Post your answers here, and if you get the answer correct you’ll earn yourself a shout-out in tomorrow morning’s newsletter. How nice are we? 😉
Before we jump into today’s news, I just want to remind you that we are currently running our Refer A Friend competition! All you have to do is refer your friends to the SDC for a chance to win a $100 voucher to Coles, Woolworths, ALDI or IGA! To refer a friend, email us their name and
email address here! You can also email us at contact@seniorsdiscountclub.com.au. Please note: You cannot email your friends' names and email addresses without their permission. If you do, your entry to the competition will be removed.
Now, let’s find out what’s happening across the world and around Australia today:
-

-
An iconic 90s bikkie is making a leap from lunchboxes to cereal bowls, and Aussies are loving it: ‘We’re all in for these.’ Take a look at the
treat causing a milky splash!
-
‘This happened today. True story.’ An ALDI shopper is warning others to be extra alert after she caught a fellow customer doing a ‘sneaky’
act. But was it accidental, or just ‘the height of rudeness’?
-
Bigger, bolder, better: VB, one of Australia’s most beloved beers, launched an ‘extra strong’ twist on a timeless classic. Fancy a swig?
-
Westpac is following CommBank's lead in strengthening anti-scam measures after an alarming spike in scam-related losses. But is it enough to
protect YOUR money from nasty criminals?

item…

work?

-
Save on your next grocery shop! Here are the best tips to get the most out of your money. We’re sure you’ll love the first tip…
-
A couple lost $100,000, their entire life savings, in just two hours all because of an email scam. Are YOU at risk? Here’s what you need to look out for.
-
Oh, no! Toblerone is getting rid of an iconic detail we’ve all come to know and love. Are we saying goodbye to the chocolate pyramids?
-
A man is turning heads and shocking people with his youthful look and charm — the catch? He’s 89-years-old, and he’s just getting started.
-
To-may-to, to-mah-to… however you pronounce it, this tasty recipe featuring tomatoes is perfect for busy schedules — and hungry SDC

Today’s throwback is really quite a blast from the past! This submission from member @antnette shows her great-grandmother, grandmother, and young mum and aunt standing in front of their ancestral home in England sometime in the 1930s. She says she enjoys restoring old photos, and I can’t help but be very grateful for seeing this lovely snapshot! I wonder how our members who can also trace their roots back to England would feel seeing this one… Well, you can all share your thoughts here! Do you have any memories you’d love to share with
other SDC members? Post them on our Nostalgia/Yesterday’s Australia forum!

Got Health insurance? Your Premiums Are Going Up Yet Again*
A health insurance rate rise of 2.90% is what Aussies are being slapped with during a cost-of-living crisis. We’ve seen mortgage rates increase, grocery prices spike, petrol prices peak, and now our health insurance premiums will be increasing by an average of 2.90%.
From 1 April 2023, Australians over the age of 65 could be paying up to $167* more per year for their health insurance and that’s just for those of you who are not with one of the ‘Big Five’ health insurers - think BUPA, Medibank, HCF, nib and HBF - if you are with one of the ‘Big Five’ you could be paying up to $194* per year for the exact same cover you currently have.

Melbourne CBD
This image of Melbourne’s CBD comes from member @Nino Xerri, who says this photograph was taken just as the sun started to peek through amid a ‘gloomy and wet morning’. I think it’s so nice how the city acts as a divider between the cloudy sky and the water. I’ve been told that the weather in Melbourne is straight-up bonkers at times, and I’m glad it cleared up enough for a picture. Thank you member @Nino
Xerri! Now, now, Sydneysiders: we know some of you may have cheekily harrumphed at today’s choice.😉 But on a more serious note, if you want to share your photos, our forum is wide open!

‘A plane is on its way to Brisbane, when a blonde in economy class gets up and moves to the first class section, and sits down. The flight attendant watches her do this and asks to see her ticket.’
‘She then tells the blonde that she paid for economy class and that she will have to sit in the back. The blond replies…’

Renowned playwright and actor William Shakespeare's epitaph issues a rather scary warning to potential graverobbers: 'Good Friends, for Jesus' sake forbear/To dig the dust enclosed here!/Blest be the man that spares these stones/And cursed be he that moves my bones.' It is said that it was once commonplace for the remains of people to be exhumed and relocated to make space for newly deceased individuals - something the great author allegedly viewed negatively.
