NEWS UPDATE21 February 2025 Publishers noteI mentioned last week that I had visited the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart. This week I found myself talking so much about it, and I decided to put ‘pen to paper’ and scribe a few words about my visit. Titled “Teak, Tillers and the smell of Huon Pine”, it is a brief view of the show through my eyes. In keeping with that old saying that a picture tells a thousand words, I have also created a photo library, with images as raw as they are, of what I saw during my time in Hobart. I hope you enjoy my story, and for those that have never been, get a better understanding of the event through my picture library. In reviewing my picture library, it’s amazing the “coincidences”. You may recall in the eNews of the 7 February, Marine Business News reported on the sinking of MV Goondooloo, whilst in transit to be an exhibit at the show. Well, it was still there on display, sort of. You will see in the picture library, a perfect scale model of it, taking its pride and place as part of the shows exhibits. This week’s eNews is a big one, reflecting the volume of stories that we published this week. And they haven’t stopped, with more news about the great things happening in our industry still arriving as I write and won’t make this week’s eNews. You can find them on our news page today. One story relates to the success the NZ Marine have had with exhibitor take up for the Auckland Boat Show kicking off on 6 March. It’s fantastic to see the show circuit thriving, both locally and internationally. Metstrade, on the other side of the world, is already seeing strong exhibitor demand.
