Kia ora, The season has officially changed, and while March marks the start of Autumn there are still a few more 'Summer on the Waterfront' events scheduled in the calendar to make the most of. On 10 March there will be a Silo Cinema screening of the people's choice cult classic 10 Things I Hate About You, and the day after there's going to be a Pikiniki Teti Pea / Teddy Bear's Picnic in Silo Park, both events are free to attend. That's not all in the pipeline for this month though - the waterfront is playing host to Indulge Festival, the Auckland Boat Show, and a bunch of other exciting goings-on that you can read more about below. Ngā mihi The Your Waterfront Team Pikiniki Teti Pea / Teddy Bear's PicnicIf you go down to Silo Park on 11 March, you’re sure of a big surprise… All humans and teddies big and small are invited to a beary special day out at the Pikiniki Teti Pea – Teddy Bear’s Picnic. This beloved childhood classic is getting the Silo Park spin; with a day of free games, entertainment and a few surprises along the way. Whether you’d like to pack your own picnic or purchase your kai from the offerings nearby, make sure to bring the whānau down (including ted!) for a day to remem-bear. This event is dependent on good weather, so please check the website or Facebook page for any updates. The waterfront buzzes into actionIn response to the National State of Emergency declared on 14 February due to Cyclone Gabrielle, the waterfront played its part to help those in need across the North Island. Once the Civil Defence evacuation centres closed in areas that no longer needed them across Auckland, all the supplies were transported to be stored at the Viaduct Events Centre. This allowed for a centre point of supplies to be redistributed via New Zealand Defence Force helicopters - using Halsey Wharf as a helipad - to isolated and impacted communities across the country. The mobilisation of this action plan was thanks to the quick thinking of the Civil Defence and Auckland Council. Thank you to anyone nearby Halsey Wharf for being so understanding about the noise! Auckland Boat Show 23 - 26 March, 10:00am - 6:00pm, Bases on Wynyard Point and Jellicoe Harbour The Auckland Boat Show is New Zealand's largest on-water boat show and it's the place to see all things marine - including the latest luxury motor yachts, sail yachts, commercial marine sector, parts, and accessories releases. Overnight works planned for the Viaduct Bascule BridgeWhen: 6 March 8:00pm - 7 March 7:00am These overnight works require the bridge to be shut to vehicles while contractors are on site completing the works, which means vehicle movement to and from Te Wero Island is unavailable. Access will still remain for people walking and using active modes of transport to get across. To complete these works, there will be some noise created by the tools used and light emitted overnight which may be disruptive to those close by. Please expect the below to take place overnight (weather permitting):
