April 8th! UMD Farmer Discussion on Agrivoltaics On Wednesday, April 8th from 12:30 pm, - 2:00 pm, UMD is hosting a small stakeholder discussion as part of a University of Maryland research project focused on how renewable energy development, particularly solar, can coexist with farmland preservation.

This conversation is an opportunity to hear directly from farmers and agricultural advocates about opportunities, concerns, incentives, and real-world experiences with agrivoltaics. Your perspective is essential to ensure this work reflects what is happening on the ground.

To RSVP, please reach out to Ansley Jacobs at jacobs17@umd.edu. If you are unable to attend but would still like to contribute, we would welcome a one-on-one conversation: Scheduler Link.

April 11th! CCBC's 19th Annual Gala On Saturday, April 11, CCBC will hold their annual gala. The director of the Sustainable Horticulture, Brad Thompson, shared the exciting news that the Sustainable Horticulture program has been selected as one of the featured programs at the annual fundraising gala! More details from Brad:

This opportunity enables us to raise funds that will go directly back into our program and support scholarship opportunities for current and future CCBC students.  Scholarships can make all the difference, and many of our students rely on that kind of support to stay on track and complete their goals.

With your support, a portion of the proceeds from the gala will directly benefit Sustainable Horticulture. These funds help us strengthen hands-on learning experiences, maintain and enhance our instructional gardens, and continue providing financial assistance to students who need it most.

If you’re interested in getting involved, there are two simple ways to do so:

  1. Attend the Gala – We would love to have our partners and friends represented in the room! It’s a great evening celebrating student success and community impact.
  2. Make a Donation – If attending isn’t possible, you can still support the program with a gift at any level. Every contribution truly makes a difference.

Our current students are working hard toward the same kinds of careers and opportunities that many of you are now thriving in. Your support helps ensure they have the same access to education, mentorship, and scholarship assistance that may have helped shape your career.

Thank you for staying connected to the program and for being such an important part of its story. I hope you’ll consider joining us in supporting the next generation. In the meantime, should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 443-840-3787.
