Class of 1972 Fifty Year ReunionThe Class of 1972 celebrated their 50-year reunion this year, bringing together many of their old classmates and two of their inspirational teachers - Brother Fitzhardinge and Sister Frances. The spirit, warmth and fun of this momentous gathering will hopefully be an inspiration to our younger Alumni - we hope your connections remain as strong and fun as these 'Old' Lasallians. Commentary by Wayne Bull (Class of 1972) On the 1 January 1972, the former De La Salle College was renamed La Salle College, marking a new chapter in the school’s development. I was a member of the Class of 1972, a group characterised by a number of firsts and lasts - the first graduating class not to have the presence of the De La Salle Brothers; the last graduating class that was unable to complete Years 11 and 12 at the College; the first group of graduates of La Salle College, rather than De La Salle College; the last group to operate in an all-boys environment, and the first class in the school to be taught by a Sister of St Joseph (Sr Frances Maguire) and a Christian Brother (Br Berkeley Fitzhardinge). This year marks 50 years since the Class of 1972 walked out of La Salle College for the last time and into employment (many as apprentices at the Midland WA Government Railways Workshops) or to other schools to complete Years 11 and 12. This option only became available the following year when St Brigid’s Covent (girls) and La Salle College (boys) amalgamated. To mark this 50th anniversary a core organising group of the Class of ’72, met on several occasions to plan this special reunion. Coordinated by Frank Pisano, Lou Muriale, Tony Doyle, Peter Duffy, Alwyn Even, George Aveling (who resides in Kuala Lumpa) and me, over 20 of our classmates gathered in February to celebrate and reminisce about our time at the College. The day was made even more memorable by the presence of Sr Frances and Br Berkely who were such an important and influential part of our educational journey of our final year at the College. While the passage of time may have diminished some of our recollections, the collective sentiment of the group was one of gratitude and pride at being part of the College’s history. Class of 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 First Alumni Event It was so great to see that even a stormy night did not deter many from attending their first Lasallian Alumni event. Mandoon put on an amazing spread with two large grazing tables and a selection of pizzas. Seeing the smiles, laughter and fun being had by all was heart-warming, evidence that this young group of 'Old' Lasallians have a connection that we hope will continue fifty years on! Celebrating sporting success Tara Stribley Class of 2021 Congratulations to Tara who was drafted in July by the Fremantle Dockers Football Club and is now playing in the AFLW 2022 competition.
