NEWS UPDATE22 December 2023 Publishers noteWith only a few days until Christmas, I was wrong to think that the news would start to slow down. It hasn’t, and this week has been as busy as most. So much so that we will continue to publish news during the festive season. We will certainly down tools on the weekends and public holidays; however, we will remain alert for any breaking news and bring it to you, whatever the day. This week, I would like to highlight two stories that have been featured on our news site, and they are the headliners for this Friday's eNews. Firstly, a piece from Danny Casey tiled “The life and death of a legend top dog to underdog!”. Danny looks back at the history of OMC, and like many of his stories they provide a fascinating insight into our industries history. Danny is a highly talented writer, story teller, and historian. Once you start reading his stories, they are hard to put down. The other is a two-part video account produced by the team at NautiStyles. These videos accomplish several things. Firstly, they take you behind the scenes into the production facilities of one of Australia’s advanced and refined boat-building facilities. Secondly, this is a must-watch for anyone looking to enter our industry and possibly learn a trade, irrespective of age. There is no better motivator than seeing and understanding the opportunities presented. These videos were certainly not made to entice newcomers to our industry, but by default, they have produced a fabulous ‘doco’ that would inspire many people to want to work in recreational boating. One is a great read, and the other is fascinating viewing. Something to enjoy while kicking back during this short break. From my family to your family, we wish you the very best for Christmas, the festive season, and a happy and prosperous 2024. Stay safe on the water, The life and death of a legend top dog to underdog!Just over fifteen years ago, Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC), once the world’s largest manufacturer of outboard motors, filed for bankruptcy. How this legendary conglomerate went from being an international institution for much of the 20th century to a virtual also-ran at the birth of the 21st is still the source of much debate. Danny Casey argues that the industry has never been the same since. NautiStyles visits Riviera and the outcome is facinatingFor those looking for quality YouTube viewing with a nautical theme, we recommend you look at the fabulous NautiStyles Channel. YachtTubers Victoria Chalaya & Rico Stoll, the founders and hosts of NautiStyles, the most watched US-based yacht walk-through YouTube channel, have close to 400,000 subscribers and more than 4 million views per month. They were in Australia recently to visit Riviera. The outcome was a fascinating insight into the workings of one of Australia’s most respected brands. Watch both episodes here. Former U.S. driver Jimmy Spithill stepped in for permanent driver Tom Slingsby, who was out on paternity leave.
