Student Representative Elections 2026 — Update 2

Kia ora koutou,

By now, all schools using the recommended date of 3 September 2026 as their election date will have called for nominations. These close on Tuesday 18 August 2026.

Before nominations close, we would like to provide the following points of clarification on the election of student representatives for Returning Officers:

• If there is only 1 nomination received, then the student is duly elected and joins the board 7 days later. If there is more than 1 nomination, a voting election will need to be held.
• If there are no nominations received, this will result in a casual vacancy for the board, and they will need to run a by election as soon as practicable.

When the elections are completed, please make sure, as the Returning Officer, you complete the School Board Updates Form here: https://www.schoolboardelections.org.nz/run-an-election/school-board-updates-form/.

If the election went to a vote, the student roll and the voting papers need to be delivered to the local District Court.
