Nominations are still open for the Healthy Ageing 50

Are you, or someone you know, a trailblazer transforming the world to be a better place to grow older?

The call for nominations for the Healthy Ageing 50 is still open: a new initiative aiming to recognize the contributions of leaders around the world already working to make the goals of the UN Decade of Healthy Aging a reality. 

Nominations can be made in English, French, and Spanish until 15 June 2022. Both self-nominations and nominations of others are possible.

Diabfrail LatAm: Participant subjects’ recruitment initiated

After several months of delay in the start of the DIABFRAIL-LATAM study due to the global pandemic situation, the recruitment of the first participants has started in the Javeriana University of Colombia. Peru, Mexico and Chile will start their recruitment shortly.

According to the project's work plan, this entity will include approximately 15 subjects per week until completion. The recruitment stage of this study is projected to last 6 months and include 350 subjects.

Addressing Men's Health and Masculinities in the Americas: A Public Health Imperative

  • 11:00 am - 12:30 am (EST)

This high-level webinar, jointly hosted by the Global Action on Men’s Health, the Center of Men’s Health Equity at Georgetown University, and PAHO will bring together policymakers, Member States, health professionals and other NGOs, researchers, and advocates to discuss the state of men’s health and gender equal masculinities in the Region and, more importantly, to begin the process of identifying and then implementing effective ways to improve men’s health outcomes.

New virtual course - Network of age-friendly cities and communities: implementation at the municipal level

  • 20 June - 8 July, 2022
  • Approx. 30 hours duration

This course, organized by the Spanish Institute of Older People and Social Services (Imserso), is aimed at training the participants for the implementation of the project at the local level, highlighting the importance of the participation of older people in this process, as well as the cross-cutting and multisectoral approach of the methodology proposed by the WHO. Registration is open until June 13.

ITEC22 - New technologies and Internet Colloquium 

  • 23 June 2022

The main objective of ITEC is to provide a forum for analysis and discussion for the adoption of new environmentally friendly technologies and their impact towards a clean and sustainable future. This regional event for the Americas, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), will be held in parallel to the 'ICT Congress for Latam' organized by Huawei at the same venue on June 23 and 24.

New: PAHO Observatory on Health and Aging for the Americas

The Observatory on Aging and Health for the Americas is a platform created by the Healthy Aging Program of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) with the main objective of providing statistical data and evidence-based information on health and aging in the region.

Integrated care for older people (ICOPE) implementation pilot programe:
Findings from the 'ready' phase

A new report summarizes the findings of the first phase of a pilot research program for ICOPE, based on experiences of implementation across nominated Member States. The launch event included presentations and panel discussions with representatives from Ministries of Health as well as with health and care workers. It also highlighted the perspectives of older people themselves on integrated care.

Age-friendly cities and communities in the Americas

As of May 27th, there are a total of 807 age-friendly cities and communities in the Region of the Americas.
