Sunday Edition
Good morning and a very happy Sunday to you all. I (Maddie) am absolutely ecstatic this morning because I managed to get out of Sydney for the weekend! I was getting a little overwhelmed by all the work I have to do and all the social gatherings I have been attending in the lead-up to Christmas and I just needed some time to rest, relax, and recharge. I think removing ourselves from our everyday environments and spending some time in nature is all we need to unwind a little. I know we have quite a few campers and caravan-ers in our community that I know will appreciate this sentiment! But regardless of how you choose to unwind, I hope you do find time and space to rest, relax and recharge whenever you need it.
Now, it wouldn’t be a Sunday without my quote of the week, now would it? Today, I thought I would do something a little bit different. I am currently reading a book called The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller. I’m only a few chapters in, so I don’t feel like I can ‘recommend’ the book just yet, but I did read a quote that really made me laugh that I wanted to share with you all…
‘The best lesson my mother ever taught me: there are two things in life you never regret—a baby and a swim.’
I’ve never had a baby (maybe one day!) so I can’t talk to that part of the quote - although I’d love to hear from those of you who have. I used to, however, be a swimmer and I can confirm that I’ve never regretted a swim. I absolutely love the water and I completely forgot how much I do until I read this quote. So I thought I’d throw this in this morning’s newsletter to either remind you to tell your ‘babies’ you love them or to go for a swim (or a bath) and just relax in the water for a little while. There really is nothing quite like it.
So, what happened across Australia and around the world this week?

Today’s ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment is brought to you by the lovely member @Charlie52! It’s a Christmas memory that was posted in our Christmas memory competition. ‘I grew up in country Victoria and Christmas was the highlight of my year. We had a very large two-storey home with most bedrooms upstairs. Every Christmas Eve, my Mother and Father (actually my Mother did all the work!) had a big party which was the place to be… If you were invited! It was a very rowdy occasion and went on until at least 1 am. Each year, my sisters and I were sent off to bed to let the adults get up to mischief. As I was the youngest, I was sent to bed first… Not happy Jan! This
particular year at about 11.30 pm there was an enormous ruckus downstairs and we all woke up. I, of course, thought that Santa had fallen down the chimney. As we crept downstairs the noise became louder. We peeked around the door at the end of the stairs to find four adults enjoying a ride on my new rocker…’
Oh my goodness! I highly recommend reading the rest of this story. It has me in stitches because I can just picture this happening! Thank you so much for sharing this hilarious memory with us, @Charlie52!

Adelaide on the Torrens at night
Member @Bunny62 posted a bunch of photos of the beautiful lights in Adelaide along the Torrens River at night. I absolutely love every photo. I have been to Adelaide a few times and I just think it’s such a beautiful city, it also has that ‘small town feel’ which is so rare in a CBD! Be sure to check out the rest of the photos in our forum here. Thank you so much for sharing these with us, @Bunny62!
