Thursday Edition
Good morning, members! Or as they say in Cambodia, Arun suasdey! (Arun SOO-wer sa-DUH-ee). Welcome to another lovely Thursday. Whew! September is almost over! Time really does seem to speed up the older you get. But that’s not to say that we’re not enjoying every minute! We love all the beautiful things that come with it, like entertaining you all with our little jokes, riddles, trivia, and maybe even a touching story or two. Ah, we have the best job in the world, don’t we? 😉
Anyways, let’s get started with today’s lineup, shall we?
First things first, it’s time to give you all the answer to yesterday’s tricky riddle. For those of you who don’t remember, the riddle goes:
What has a tongue, cannot walk but gets around a lot?
Did you get it? The answer is a shoe! A shoe has a tongue (the part that goes under the laces), and while it can’t walk on its own, it does get around a lot (on your feet). As expected, a ton of you got the answer correct! And you know what that means, right folks? You get a shout-out! So stick around, and you’ll find a shout-out waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next on the agenda for today, it’s time to share with you a Fascinating Fact!
Did you know that camels have three eyelids to protect themselves from the blowing desert sand? Two of the eyelids have eyelashes that help protect their eyes. The third eyelid is a very thin lid that works like a windshield wiper and cleans off their eyes. It closes/opens side to side and is thin enough that the camels can see through it. So in a sandstorm, they can close that lid to protect their eyes from the sand but still see where they are going. How’s that for a Thursday fact, eh?

For today’s ‘Yesterday’s Australia’ segment, we have a lovely memory from member @Honeybunny. ‘I remember the iceman coming around in a horse-drawn cart & the iceman would carry the blocks of ice in & put the ice into the ice chest. The ice was carried in by two hooks. This happened once a week & the horse knew which house to stop at.’
What a lovely memory! The iceman must have been a bit of a celebrity in the neighbourhood! It’s amazing to think that this was once a common occurrence, and now it’s something we only see in movies and photos. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, @Honeybunny.

The Macaques of Gibraltar
Today’s awesome picture is thanks to member @dragabagalong. They posted this photo in our photography forum with the caption: ‘These Macaque monkeys up on the Rock of Gibraltar originally came from North Africa. They are deliberately kept to manageable numbers, around 300 to 350. They continually check each other out, looking for pests in their coats. They are very playful, but we were warned not to interact too much with them. Spain is in the background here, and Morocco is to the left of this photo.’
How cool is that? We love seeing pictures from your travels and this one is just amazing. The monkeys look so cute, and the view from the top is breathtaking. We want to visit Gibraltar now to see these monkeys for ourselves. Thank you, @dragabagalong, for sharing this beautiful shot with us!
