The Northbrook Fire Department Open House returns with Sparky the Fire Dog, fire trucks, safety demos, therapy dogs, and hands-on activities for kids of all ages! Join us for this free family-friendly event on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Fire Station 10 (650 Huehl) from 9am-12pm. Parking will be available at the Village Public Works building (655 Huehl). Don't miss this exciting day of fun and fire safety! The Fire Department Open house is hosted in conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week (October 5-11, 2025).
COOK COUNTY BOARD OF REVIEW OPEN FOR PROPERTY TAX APPEALS
The Cook County Board of Review is now open for 2025 property tax appeals (taxes paid in 2026) for Northfield Township residents. This is the second opportunity to appeal your triennial reassessment. The Northfield Township Assessor’s Office can review your 2025 assessment, provide comparable data, and assist with filing an appeal online, by phone, or in person. If you previously appealed with the Cook County Assessor, you should have received your results by mail. The deadline to file an appeal with the Board of Review is October 21, 2025. WATERSMART PORTAL LAUNCHES OCTOBER 1
Starting October 1, the Village of Northbrook will launch a free online portal designed to help residents monitor water use, conserve resources, and spot potential leaks early. Customers with contact information on file will automatically begin receiving notifications when unusual water usage is detected. WaterSmart makes it easier than ever to understand your water habits, avoid costly surprises, and protect your home or

Paint Northbrook Plein Air 2025 Art Show

Experience Northbrook through the eyes of local artists! The Paint Northbrook Plein Air 2025 Art Show is now on display at the Northbrook Public Library, featuring more than 50 original paintings created by 15 talented artists during the August plein air painting event. Visit the second floor of the Library (1201 Cedar Lane) to view the exhibit now through September 26, 2025. Car Seat Safety Check | Northbrook Police Department

The Northbrook Police Department is hosting a Car Seat Safety Check event on Monday, September 29th from 11am-3pm at the Northbrook Police Department (1401 Landwehr Road). Certified car seat technicians will check your child's seat to make sure it is installed correctly and securely. This event is free and no appointment is necessary.

Closing Day Bash | Northbrook Farmers Market

Don’t miss the 17th annual Closing Day Bash at the Northbrook Farmers Market on Wednesday, October 8! This event is packed with fun for all ages and it’s FREE. Warm up with hot apple cider, join a scavenger hunt for painted gourds to win vendor certificates, and take on the apple taste-testing challenge for a chance at fresh flowers and bouquets. Little ones ages 2–6 can enjoy pumpkin decorating (costumes encouraged!) from 9 a.m. to noon. While enjoying live music, stock up on fall produce, honey, baked goods, artisanal soaps, seasonal décor, and unique gifts perfect for the holidays.
Halloween in Northbrook

Trick-or-treating hours in Northbrook are from 4pm to 8pm on Halloween. If you would like to alert trick-or-treaters of your household's participation, click here to download and print one of the Village's signs to display on your front door. If you don't have access to a printer, signs will be available for free pickup at Village Hall in October.

Emergency ID Bracelets are available at no cost to Northbrook residents with health care needs, including seniors, individuals with developmental delays, or anyone with medical or mental health concerns. Issued by appointment, these bracelets provide vital details and emergency contacts to first responders, helping ensure quick, effective assistance when it matters most.
Prescription Drug Collection Drop Box
The Village, in partnership with the Cook County Sherriff's Department, offers a prescription drug collection program to safely dispose of unused or expired medications. A secure drop box is located in the front lobby of the Northbrook Police Department at 1401 Landwehr Road and is available to the public 24 hours a day. The program accepts only pharmaceutical materials: no liquids, loose pills, or other waste.
