Thursday Edition
Good morning, members! Or, as they would say in Thailand, sà-wàt-dee ka! We are having nice weather here in Sydney, so we hope you are enjoying the sunshine where you are too! Speaking of weather, did you know that on this day in 1926, the weather map was televised for the first time ever? But there were no fancy graphics, no on-screen forecaster, and only one intended recipient: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Washington, DC. How things have changed since then, eh?
But enough about the weather, let's move on to today's lineup. As always, we’ve got an exciting lineup for you today. So without further ado, let's get started, shall we?
First things first, it’s time to give you all the answer to yesterday’s tricky riddle. For those of you who don’t remember, the riddle goes:
I can travel at nearly 100 miles per hour but never leave the room. You can cover me up, but that doesn’t slow me down. You will not know if I come only once or again and again and again. What am I?
Well? The answer is, of course, a sneeze! A sneeze can travel at nearly 100 miles an hour, but it never leaves the room. You can cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze, but that doesn't slow it down. And finally, you never know if you're going to sneeze once or multiple times. As expected, a ton of you got the answer correct! And you know what that means, right folks? You get a shoutout! So stick around, and you'll find a shoutout waiting for you at the end of the newsletter.
Next up on the agenda, folks is our Fascinating Fact of the week!
Did you know that the fastest muscle in the human body is found in the eye? These are called orbicularis oculi which control the closing action of the eyelids. When the corneal reflex (an involuntary reaction that protects the eye) is triggered – such as by an object touching the eye – the orbicularis oculi muscles snap the eyes shut in less than 100 milliseconds (0.1 second). Isn’t that incredible?
Now, what’s happening in Australia and around the world today?
