BRINGING NEW LIFE TO WOOROLOO BROOK

We’ve made exciting progress in the restoration of two key sections of the Wooroloo Brook!

Supported by the City of Swan and Susannah Wooroloo Catchment Group, two family-friendly planting events took place on Saturday 7 June and Sunday 22 June. These form part of a project supported by funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program, to carry out vital post-fire environmental recovery initiatives throughout the Wooroloo Brook.

Thirty-two volunteers including enthusiastic kids came together to plant trees, shrubs and rushes, breathing new life into areas impacted by the devastating 2021 Wooroloo bushfire. Nearly 1,800 seedlings found their new home along the Brook’s banks, and our volunteers gave the tree and shrub seedlings extra help to establish by installing tree guards.

A huge thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves to help Wooroloo Brook flourish once again.

Dive into the full article to uncover the story behind the project and discover how you can participate in future community planting days.

SCHOOLS & NATIONAL TREE DAY

Perth NRM supported National Tree Day and Schools Tree Day to help inspire the community to plants trees and connect to nature. A small grant was provided to 12 schools to encourage youth stewardship; funding the provision of customised packs of native seedlings to be planted in and around their schools. A celebration event was held at The Wetlands Centre Cockburn where students enjoyed a short talk, planting demonstration, and tour of the nursery before collecting native seedlings grown to suit their local area.

Down the coastline, over 40 volunteers worked frantically to plant 850 coastal seedlings at Secret Harbour before the weather rolled in on National Tree Day.
