El Niño events can have a significant impact on crop yields and a strong El Niño could lead to drier-than-average conditions in Western Australia. The El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is currently neutral, but it will likely not stay that way for long. Both the Australian Bureau of Meteorology and the Climate Prediction Centre (CPC) of the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have now issued an El Niño Watch. El Niño could occur as soon as during May-June-July this year, with a 62% chance of development during that time, according to NOAA CPC forecasts. For WA, there are chances of both an El Niño and a positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) developing from June, the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development reports in its latest Seasonal Climate Outlook. If an El Niño coincides with a positive IOD, there is a clear signal for reduced winter-spring rainfall for large parts of the State's South West Land Division. More... Rabobank believes that the world avocado production expanded by a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 7% over the past decade. For Australia, avocado production grew at a CAGR of 9% over the same period. Attractive prices and returns have been primary drivers of expansion in key regions. Consumers are increasingly being drawn towards avocados due to their incredible healthiness. In 2022, Australia increased the export volumes of avocado by 35%, rising to 11,000 metric tonnes. More... The Middle East’s projected slowdown in growth is believed to be associated with allowing tight policies to fight inflation, reduce vulnerabilities, rebuild buffers, and cut oil production. On the other hand, Central Asia depends heavily on external factors, such as growth in their main trading partners, the pace of private transfers and monetary tightening. Several countries within the region are unable to implement effective monetary policy due to the lack of fiscal policy coordination, or fiscal domination on behalf of one (or a few) powerful actors. The IMF believes that countries within the region ought to benefit from strengthening monetary policy frameworks and fostering greater financial development, as well as enhancing the independence of central banks while reducing their economic costs.
