📝Due March 27! The Maryland Farm Bureau Scholarship is live! The Maryland Farm Bureau is awarding five $2,000 scholarships for the 2026-2027 academic year. Applicants must be current high school seniors with plans to start college in Fall 2026 or may be current full-time college students at any accredited community college or four-year institution. Applicants or their parents/guardians must be members, in good standing, of the Maryland Farm Bureau to be eligible to apply. Three scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing academic degrees in food, agriculture and/or natural resources disciplines, and two scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing degrees in other academic disciplines. Applications are due March 27, 2026 by 4 PM. Any questions about the scholarship should be directed to Katie Walker at kwalker@marylandfb.org. The Maryland Nursery, Landscape, and Greenhouse Association Ornamental Horticulture Scholarship Application Open In keeping with its mission to promote and provide for the future success of Maryland's ornamental horticulture industry, the Maryland Nursery, Landscape and Greenhouse Association shall sponsor academic scholarships to students pursuing an education in the field of landscape/ornamental horticulture. Currently, the MNLGA offers three scholarships for $10,000 each to students with status of Junior, Senior, or Grad Student, enrolled in a horticulture or landscape architecture degree program. Be sure to check out the MDFB's new website: http://www.marylandfb.org/ Maryland Farm Bureau Demands Dismissal of MPRP Project: Legal Filing Highlights Project’s Failed Timeline On November 3rd, the MDFB in partnership with the Baltimore, Carroll, and Frederick County Farm Bureaus, announced that it has filed a crucial motion with the Public Service Commission of Maryland (PSC) demanding the outright dismissal of the proposed Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (MPRP) transmission line application by PSEG. The filing argues that the PSEG’s own admission that it cannot meet the project’s critical June 2027 deadline is sufficient reason to immediately halt the case, saving Maryland taxpayers and hundreds of farmers from months of needless legal and financial burdens. Hereford Middle School Ag Career Fair BCFB's Ag Ambassador, Scarlett Heffner, brought to our attention that on Tuesday, June 9th, Hereford MS will host their first Ag Fair, and they are looking for presenters! They are looking to share all aspects of agriculture including students interested in sharing their animal projects. UMES Extension Survey The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites you to participate in a USDA NIFA-funded, multi-state research project titled “Perceptions of Adverse Weather Events and Changing Weather Patterns.” This study spans 18 states and 19 1890s land-grant universities, seeking to understand how farmers and agricultural communities perceive and adapt to increasing weather variability and changing weather patterns. MARBIDCO Offers Two Maryland Resource-Based Industry Financing Fund (MRBIFF) Options MARBIDCO's popular “MRBIFF” Loan Program now offers a Participation Loan option in addition to its traditional Direct Loan option. The Participation Loan option is currently offered through Horizon Farm Credit and Colonial Farm Credit. MARBIDCO welcomes other lenders to adopt this lending approach.
