“Top Five” Announced for 23rd Annual Excellence in Construction Awards

Not Even A Pandemic Can Stop Us from Shining a Spotlight on Safety

OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down, an annual event aimed at preventing falls in construction, was originally set to take place May 4 – 8. Like so many things, however, it was recently put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic. OSHA will reschedule its stand-down week for later this year. In the meantime, ASA-Houston Chapter is thrilled to be part of a seven-organization alliance formed to highlight fall prevention in construction during the month of June.

The idea came about during an ASA-HC Safety Committee call in mid-May (yes, less than three weeks ago) and quickly gained traction among trade organizations in our industry. Throughout June, each organization will relay information and useful tools in an effort to increase awareness of fall hazards — and to stop fall fatalities and injuries in construction.

Watch your email and keep an eye on social media (#fallpreventioncampaign #fallpreventioninconstruction #fallpreventionforyourfamily) all month long for everything from informative safety videos, to Accessing Safety Knowledge (ASK) sheets, toolbox talks, jobsite signage and information to keep your family safe.

"GOLF IS ESSENTIAL" SPRING GOLF TOURNAMENT

Join ASA-Houston Chapter for sun and social distancing on the golf course! Given our current environment, we’ll take every precaution to ensure players, volunteers and sponsors who attend can keep themselves safe. Changes include a golf cart for each player and elimination of the usual shotgun start. This year, each team will have its own tee time, spaced out at 10-minute intervals between 7 and 11:30 a.m.

The 2020 tournament includes chipping and putting contests, lunch, 18 holes of golf, door prizes and more! Visit the event page for more information about the tournament and the precautions we plan to implement.

ASA-HC MEMBER NEWS OF NOTE

Pat Kiley Embarks on New Venture, Kiley Literary Legacies

On May 15, FMI Corporation’s Pat Kiley left the firm to shift primary focus to what he called his “super senior season.” Pat has been a member of ASA-HC since 2005, and part of the construction industry family for numerous years prior to that. We wish him continued success with his new endeavor, Kiley Literary Legacies.

“It has been a privilege to be part of that fine firm (FMI) since they acquired Kiley Advisors in December 2016,” Pat said in his announcement. “The members of their team are all blue-chip individuals with solid values and enormous talents. I am always happy to recommend them and fly their flag.”
